So I am reducing my meds (geodon) next week

With pdoc permission of course

Does anyone have any tips to get through med withdrawl and staying stable for the long term?

Anything you wish you had done or could do differently?

Any meds that help with withdrawl?

Risperdal helped me with withdrawal (but that's another AP, you prob don't want that). Other than that, lots of vitamins. Also, melatonin and magnesium to help calm muscles and for sleep. Good luck!

Dx: BP2, PTSD, bulimia/anorexia
Seroquel 300mgs
Trileptal 30mgs
Buspar 45mgs
Ativan 1mg PRN
Vyvance 50mg PRN

Yes pay close attention. Give yourself plenty of sleep and good nutrition. I am not the best giver of that kind of advice because I am usually up all night.

I'm not very good at withdrawal advice. My method is to just wait it out and try to get plenty of sleep and give myself a break if I have to put my life in hold for four months. Good luck!

Oh, and I'm happy you're feeling better!

Relize most symptoms are temporary...try not to be too anxious about it that will compound the symptoms. Like everyone says, relax, get lots of sleep and good nutrition. I increase the omega vitamins ....just because it makes me feel more protected...can't say if it really works or if it just a mind trick. Happy for you! So glad your pain issues have been dealt with, truly believe that will help the psych stability.

Yes the relief from pain has made a huge improvement in my mood.

I can see the last few years more clearly now, a hell of a lot of pain and anxiety.

It never occurred to me when my T/pdoc said I was in a lot of pain that she meant physical!

She has been saying for at least 8 months "pain" and "referred pain" I didnt understand what she meant by it. I obviously showed psychological issues due to the pain as it was very rare I actually mentioned it in session as I had been dismissed so often by other doctors.

I am so super stoked she has said she fully supports that now is the time to be med free. I am really surprised how quickly I went from suicidal to going off meds - just over a month. And it literally "clicked".

Thankyou all for your support and kindness through this journey.

I will break out the fish oil and melatonin. I'll also ask med pdoc if there is anything he can give to help, I have suffered long enough, I will not be anti getting off meds meds!

I'm taking vitamin D because I keep having deficiencies. It makes you really tired and achy. Also, I keep hearing people rave about magnesium here, so I'm starting that tonight.

I'm so glad you have a supportive pdoc. You're making a brave decision. Good luck!

I have vitamin D in the cupboard too, although I work in the sun so my levels have never been too much of an issue, but extra can not hurt in this transition.

Im kinda scared but relieved.

Drink lots of water. Try Benadryl for sleep; it's an over the counter antihistamine that is pretty safe. If you can take it, use Tylenol for any aches and pains you may get. You see, you might feel as though you have the flu for a week or so... and you should treat yourself gently while your body adjusts.

NOTE... I'm not a doctor, but this is what I do when I come off a medication or adjust a dose, and my pdoc approves.

Vitamin D makes you tired and achy, or the lack of Vitamin D? I take D3 because I'm deficient in that and I seem to remember being tired and cranky without it.

Best of luck on your weaning off. I had to go off it rather abruptly since it prolonged my QT really bad.

I need to take more Vitamin D. Every blood test I get keeps showing me as deficient.

Thankyou

Yes water is a must.

I am having all sorts of side effects that were all plamed off by psyc nurses and gps. I will go into pdoc with a list! And i hope he feels sympathy that for so long i was told it was all in my head - turned out to be pain.

So what are these drugs doing if not helping pain nor helping me cope?

All the strategies I have so diligently practiced for years finially work now that i can breathe.

I will be happy to take what i need for aches pains and anxiety. I will never go on a long term anti psychotic again

Can they rapid detox Ap's?

I have a feeling my pdoc might encourage hospital. Which is going to be a fighting point. I'd rather suffer 4 days in hospital than 4 weeks at home, but my parnter is so anti hospital.

I got flattened by a horse, knocked out, concussed and whiplash. I have been angry with the pain and not being able to get off the geodon as quickly as I would like.

My pdoc just gave me a script for xanax and said to go back to the gp for pain management (which i did - he said a weeks rest and paracetamol).

I hate takining the xanax cos it only works for 10 minutes and im supposed to tale it 4-6 times a day and hate taling pills that much that arnt even that effective.

I asked the pharmacy about what to do for muscle spasms and they said hyrolyte.

I looked for pain techniques on the net, i already practice most.

I am very very tired and i didnt even take benzos today but i hurt so much i am goibg to give in soon

I have withdrawl if i dont take it every 12 hours. Ive been on it over 5 years now so pdocs warned it would be brutal.

Last week i was ademant about not going to hospital. This week I am so impulsively dangerous, i need to be. I know it will pass as the meds withdrawal, but my friends, family and doctors are concerned i will do serious damage on impulse. And so am i.

But admitting pdoc cant see me til next week and the prn make me agitated. I predict locked ward again if my admitting pdoc doesnt get back to me.

That's a tough situation
I hope everything works out well
Going off seroquel a few times cold turkey flipped me into some major episodes so it can be pretty bad
Good luck!

I just switched from seroquel to risperdal. No problems YET. You should think about going to the ER if you're impulses are getting to you and your pdoc can't get back in time. Take care and good luck!

Risperdal 4mg
Trileptal 300mgs

Can you see a chiropractor/massage therapist/something? Even acupuncture can help.

I have a friend whose hand swells occasionally and her acupuncturist will release some kind of fluid build-up which helps her with pain management.

Chiropractor can help with any bone realignment if that's part of the problem which can reduce pain.

Massage therapy can release tension in muscles which can cause headaches/head pain and body.

It won't get rid of the pain completely but helps with managing it.
