Does anybody else take Valium PRN for their agitation/mixed/anxiety symptoms? Sometimes I try to get through the agitation without taking it but I feel like I'm going to jump out of my skin, throw myself over a bridge or just be stupid even though nothing has actually set me off. Agitation comes almost out of nowhere, or may be sparked by something so inconsequential that it is just plain silly.
If you guys don't take that, what do you do for these restless and irritated feelings? I do the breathing, mindfulness etc. sometimes it just seems doomed to get me while I'm feeling mostly fine.

I have valium for agitation although mostly I take it when I'm manic and completely unable to sleep. If I divide the dose and take half to start calming down and half to knock myself out I'll get some sleep. I don't like taking it otherwise b/c I'm really sensitive and it makes me very groggy if it doesn't put me out and it doesn't always so it leaves me half asleep and unable to do anything. I have klonopin as well and prefer to take it for anxiety or hydroxyzine as much as possible. I have used valium for a few bad panic attacks and was glad I had it then.

I take Olanzapine (Zyprexa) for agitation and Clonazepam for anxiety. For me when I'm very agitated benzo's just don't cut it. Distraction is another good technique I use along with mindfulness but it is esp hard to be mindful when my thoughts are racing so I take the meds at that point.
