Most mornings seem to be hard for me now. I've managed to have an ok day overall the past few days, so I'm trying to remind myself of that, but right now I can't stop crying and shaking. I miss my grandfather and I wish I were at my parents' house so they could take care of me, but I know how ridiculous that is because I'm 27 and need to be independent. I have my support group tonight, so need to pull it together before then, but I don't really feel like going because I have to take two busses to get there and it's going to be cold. I would hate to end today without having done anything though. I just hate feeling awful like this.

I'm sorry you're having such a difficult time. Mornings certainly can be difficult. When I was severely depressed I promised myself I would do one constructive thing every day-- just one, no matter how small-- and I was able to keep that promise, and some days do a couple of things. I hope you can make it to your support group. That would be a major constructive thing done today, and I think it would probably make you feel better.

Don't feel ashamed about wanting to be around your parents. I'm 35 and after my breakdown last year I spent several weekends with my parents because it felt safe.
I do hope you make it to your group tonight. It's a rough time in this country and I think everyone is feeling a little scared and down today. |

I agree with jupiter. There's no shame in wanting support from your parents, no matter what your age is, especially when you're going through something so tough. And like the others, I too hope you make it to your support group tonight. Getting started is always the most difficult part, but once you do that, the rest usually comes a bit easier. Best of wishes to you and many hugs.

Something another user on here told me is that self care is really helpful with depression - it can be anything that makes you feel taken care of like a hot bath, a cup of hot chocolate, your favorite meal, or even a TV show / Youtude videos that are inspiring. These are just a few ides she gave me. I've been using this strategy for a week of so now and it really helps. I know it takes some effort though so be gentle with yourself. Good luck.

Are you in therapy or any grief counseling? After my mom died I went to grief counseling and read a lot of books on the grieving process. It truely is a process and crying it out is included as well as support from family so don't feel bad. I'm 28 and call my daddy or big brother about anything from a bad job interview to a clogged pipe. We all need our parents no matter how old we are!
