I've decided to go med free. I think I jumped the gun getting medicinal treatment prior to even trying to help myself through therapy. I have discovered that it's my thoughts that affect my mood not the other way around. I think CBT will be very beneficial. I'm entering a second tertiary degree, was going to do mental health nursing but I'm really really excited about potentially doing a masters of psychology instead! I'm not so sure about being diagnosed bipolar. I feel like the meds never really helped that much, just covered some symptoms. So I stopped them both last week. No Prozac no Lithium & feeling good. Pretty sure I should be fine with the sudden stopping of Prozac due to its extended half life. I know last time stopping lithium suddenly made me feel pretty bad but it was during a stressful time. & so far no weird voices or feelings of self destruction. Win win. Keep on looking on the bright side of life.

Quite a few people manage without meds. I hope it works for you.

I spent almost a year preparing to go med free..
I have done pretty well, but.... You have to be prepared to ride out the waves, often I white knuckle it and would hang on for dear life. Even tho you stopped your meds and feeling okay now " Typically" it takes about 3 months for you brain to revert back to unmedicated state .. then you will really be able to see if you can manage to be med free. You can never have enough coping skills. Good luck !!! ![]()

I think you've made a good (but risky) decision, as have I. No amount of medicine or therapy has worked for me. I'm hoping that, now that I've put the pot pipe down, I will stabilize naturally. I'm testing the theory that it was the marijuana all along that had me moving from one cycle to the next.
I feel so guilty for all the damage I've done. I just want to make it all right. I'm staying as positive as I can, and just trying to make amends. |

I was responding to the "thoughts control your moods" comment. Hopefully things work out for you.

I see your point. I wasn't dx bpd, I suppose I may have traits?

Been med free since end of 2013 and white knuckling comment has applied here. But in all have managed to stay semi level. Meditation, routine and avoiding stress has been the key for me. Good luck.
