I will be moving in the spring. I know that if you go through a big change in your life, especially if you are BP, it can be very difficult. I was just wondering if anyone had any tips on how to stay stable so I don't spin into mania or dip down into a deep depression. Thank you!

Hello sassysue: Well... I've moved a few times. I think the main thing is to plan ahead & start packing earlier than you think you need to. I don't know how far you're going or how much stuff you have to move. If you're not moving that much stuff, this may not be a problem. But it seems like it's easy for things to pile up toward the end & throw everything into a panic. I'd suggest writing out a list of all the things you need to do & giving each item a target date. If possible, you might also enlist any family members & friends who are available to help out in any way they can. Good luck with your move!

How far is the move? The further, the more planning it entails, like skeezks suggested.
Good luck, I switched bedrooms (Just bedrooms, for crying out loud) and it gave me a ton of headaches. Check in with us if you ever feel overwhelmed! |

I agree I moved once to a different state. My situation was difficult because I had just lost my job. I had an episode at work and was fired. I felt like a loser. I had a little money saved so I had time to plan. I had friends help me pack up. I had my doc to increase my meds. We knew that the fact I was moving because I had to vs because I wanted to would be stressful. I moved back to my home state. My parents did fly in the day of the move. They finished helping with the small other packing.

Sleeping pills
I am not kidding. You will need sleep, but your brain will be going a mile a minute. Sleep helps us balance.

I agree, start packing early and carefully. Pack the stuff you won't immediately need first and label it. Anything that you will need when you first move in (some clothes, toiletries, underwear, a couple of plates and glasses) pack in a separate box and mark it clearly. That way you won't be digging around like crazy when you first move in.
Also, take care of all the utility hookups beforehand. Preparation is key. I have moved states a couple times, and while it was stressful, the more prepared I was the easier it wound up being. Enlist the help of family and friends and hire a mover if you can. Also, have PRN's handy and make sure you eat and sleep normally. |
