I have a prescription for Lamictal which I was prescribed to take at night. I was having depressive issues so my pdoc allowed me to double it to 100mg. But taking it at that dose at night along with my original night med of the Trileptal left me with sleep issues. Even when taking my sleep med of Restoril for sleep. On Tuesday night I doubled my restoril to see if that would give me any relief and it did. I felt so refreshed yesterday!
Here's the reason for this post... I emailed my pdoc about a refill for my Trileptal and told her about the sleep issues. She advised that I take my Lamictal in the morning instead to help with sleep problems. This will make me take pretty much everything in the morning. But when I look up side effects (I know that doesn't always mean it's true), dizziness and drowsiness are associated effects. I know some people take Lamictal here. What time of day do you take it? |

I used to take lamictal in the morning, I didn't have Any issues with dizziness or drowsiness from it -- in fact I can't really recall any noticeable side effects (I stopped taking It back in May).

I've never known anyone to have those side effects. I take it at night with all my meds just before bed because it's more convenient. But in the past I've taken it in the mornings without those issues.

Seems as though it's more common than I thought. Thank you!!
It's just going to be weird at work. At 8am I take effexor and 150mg of the wellbutrin and now the lamictal. I'll be swallowing a bunch of pills first thing in the morning! Trileptal and restoril will stay at night, 9pm. |

For lamictal I've been taking half in the morning around seven thirty and the other half between seven thirty and eight thirty at night. The only thing I notice is that it sort of perks me up a bit. Good luck!

I took it both ways. In the clinical trial for it they said to take it in the morning (they also had us on somewhat higher than normal doses). I threw up from taking it pretty much every time I took it so switched to night to try to sleep through the nausea and keep it down. I don't remember any difference at all except with the vomiting.

I take lamictal in the morning, along with a few others. I always make sure I have eaten some food before I take those morning meds as I can have nausea that is unpleasant. night time meds (lithium, tegretol) are at a pretty consistent time, but morning is more variable. i try, but it is hard.

Morning and night. When I was on 200mg, I just took it in the morning. Above 200mg, I split into morning and night. I always used to take it all in the morning. But at one point, I'd been bumped up to 400mg (in spaced +50mg steps from 300 iirc) and wow, that didn't work out(!) I had 2 significant side effects, but can only remember the wonky vision. Called psych right away. Next day switched to 200 in am, 200 in pm. Problem solved.
Currently on 300mg. Quite sure we'll be bumping it up again. Only side effects were a day or two with a light headache and body aches at the very beginning of starting on it, and just the single day of the ones mentioned above. In mornings I take after eating. I can be inconsistent with timing ![]() I've had a good experience with it (7, maybe 8 years). If anything, people tend to find it a bit activating. Drowsiness would be pretty unusual. As for dizziness, I've only ever found that to happen with the doses-too-close thing (but I'm on a fair bit, so...) Can you take your meds before you go to work? Sounds like you're a little uncomfortable with taking meds there. |

I take mine about 2 hours before I want to sleep. So usually around 11pm.

So today was the first morning dose, and I got a lot done! It may be that the assignments I had to complete weren't as difficult, or maybe the Lamictal is activating and I could focus better. Either way I'm happy.

I take 200 MG of Lamictal in the morning and 400 in the evening. It has never had an effect on my sleep. Once, when I was a teenager and I stopped taking my meds, I restarted it (full dose) all at once and it gave me vertigo so badly I had to go by ambulance to the hospital. I'm sure that is a rare side effect but I would advise anyone not to start on a high dose (there are reasons they titrate some meds). Also, I am terrible at my morning meds. I take them between 9 and 12:30. I take my evening meds at 9PM.

Glad to hear the morning is working out for you!
I take mine after dinner, on a full stomach. Never had any side effects. When I went to a higher dose I asked my pdoc if I should split it into two doses and she said it really did not matter.
