I started Latuda 2 weeks ago and in the past couple of days I particular I have noticed an increase in agitation and aggression. I do have BPD also, but this is new and worse than my usual. I got the script inpatient so I can't really call the doctor and my appointment with my new pdoc isn't until March 4th. I feel bad stopping it, but I keep flying off the handle and I don't know how much more of this I can take.

Latuda did bad things to me. After 6wks I stopped as I thought it best for my wellbeing. Pdoc wasnt hapoy but when I told him where the med was taking me he was ok. I don't recommend stopping Meds without pdoc approval but you know your body best and you have a baby to consider. March 4 isnt that far. If stopping makes you feel worse start again! BUT don't cold turkey. I am not a pdoc this is just my opinion/experience. You could try a call into new pdoc explaining the situation even though you haven't had your first visit. Maybe they can give an appointment earlier? Just another thought.

Sorry to hear that Latuda didn't work out for you. I'm fortunate enough that Latuda has been working for me, but gabapentin gave me the same symptoms you're describing. I told my pdoc right away that it was making me aggressive/hostile, and he pulled me off it immediately.

Hope you're doing better these days.
Thanks for this!

Latuda made me super irritable/aggressive for a couple weeks during the first month I was on it. I'd say it didn't start until the second or third week. It did go away though.
Thanks for this!

Latuda took 5 weeks to level off for me. I enjoy it now at night with a cool glass of ovaltine.

Hi I see in your signature you're pregnant comgratulations!
Is latuda the only safe one to be on right now?
Can you try drinking a lemon squeezed in ice water? That is said to help agitation, I should start doing that again. Check vitamin & mineral levels in your bloodwork? Red raspberry leaf tea is great for many things while pregnant.
What else is going on with your partner, family, work? Is everyone helping & being supportive?
Much love.

Sorry that you are having a hard time. I know how hard it is to be pregnant and dealing with mental issues! I had to stop taking Latuda after two weeks due to Akethisia. That alone was making me agitated. I was miserable!!! My doctor let me go off of it cold turkey since I was on it such a short amount of time. Like the others, I'm not a doctor so I would double check if you could do that. Hope you are feeling better!

Why does everything have to be so hard??? I am going to try and stick it out until March. Yesterday actually wasn't bad. My husband is aware of the problem and I told him if he wants to keep a distance from me for a while that I would understand. Lol. Latuda has helped so much with my mood that I really want it to work out. I am seriously hoping the agitation lessens. This is my second week on it, I really want to try a full month before stopping it. We will see.

I have been on Latuda for a few months now. After yrs of trial and error and unrelenting depression, I am extremely grateful to have finally found the missing ingredient in my med cocktail i was originally prescribed 20mgs take am after eating. The first few days were HELL! I was nauseous, muscle pain and fatigue during the day, eating everything sugary in sight, early afternoon into evening, agitation ,irritability, and loopy feeling mental fog would set in, night was hell too insomnia, hot and cold sweats, nightmares, EXTREME thirst... I almost just threw the damn bottle away! But I could not stand the thought of going through yet another med fail and having to rework up the courage to try another AGAIN.... So I called my Doc and explained my side effects and asked what she thought. She said sounds like overdose symptoms take a few days off to get back to base and then try again start with half and move it to night. Long story, short..... (Lol) I can't remember EVER feeling this healthy and balanced! I'm so glad that I didn't give up on it. I still get mild side effects but compared to the benefits they are nothing " Technically" I am not even on what is considered a therapeutic dose but I am very sensitive to meds and.... Hey if it ain't broke....!

Idk, for me latuda just didn't work. I tried it 3 times. I just got horrible akathisia on it. And bc the akathisia was so bad my new psych nurse told me it sounds like I was having panic attacks too. Hopefully the irritable side effect goes away for you. Other than the akathisia it did help with my paranoia and depression and I lost weight on it. But omg I just couldn't tolerate that akathisia...

I would say give it more time....good luck.

latuda did this to me as well. agitation, frustration, mixed symptoms and simply no appetite. it was hell, and it is super expensive. good luck, i hope you and your doctor can work something out that will help level you out and decrease the negative mental/physical energy that is just so draining.

Thankful for this post. I am 8 weeks pregnant with baby #2 and had to stop all my regular meds. I don't normally like taking mood stabilizers but my dr recommended it as its class B and safe to take. After I looked up the symptoms I was weary and decided not to start taking it just yet. Now I'm really glad I waited. I think I will continue to hold off and probably trash the script.

Every one is different and every pregnancy is different. And for now it is believed to be the safest atypical AP for pregnancy... But it is also the newest. So really time will tell. But I know many women who have taken it worked great to decent enough to keep depression mild enough to make it through and have completely healthy children! Only not recommended for breastfeeding. But the side effects of going unmedicated and falling into bad depression can be potentially FAR more damaging to your infant and yourself. I'm not trying to be a med pusher by any means but if you feel yourself slipping... well you gotta worry about your health first ..cus if Mama ain't healthy....ain't no one healthy. also if your worried about the agitation, most study now show that statistically after the first trimester benzos have not shown really much if any higher risk of deformity than non benzo pregnancies... If not weened off before delivery than yes your baby will go through withdrawals but almost all subside with in a couple of weeks to a month and no difference in hitting milestones by age 5. Sorry sometimes my brain goes on info auto drive. I need to sleep. Snow queen is getting *****y sorry. Only you know what's best for your body your brain and your baby. Just trust your gut. And if you do find you need meds don't beat yourself up.

Thanks for your response, it's actually really comforting. It's hard to not feel guilty about taking meds and being pregnant. And then not being able to breastfeed. My worst nightmare is postpartum psychosis. Before I was on meds I felt myself slipping in and out of reality. I don't want to hurt myself or my kids, so obviously I have to be medicated. I like that Latuda is category B too so I really want it to work for me.
