What I mean by this is... I have plenty of meds left in my bottles (maybe I forgot to take them or they're PRN) but if my refill is due, I fill it anyway and just put it away in my cabinet. The reason I do this is because I have a terrible fear that my insurance will get turned off abruptly. It has happened before! I have Medicaid and they can change it on me or put me in a certain program month to month with no warning. They "say" they mailed a notice but I didn't get anything. One time I went to fill my script and they said "sorry your insurance ended!" I freaked out so bad that my brother had to pay out of pocket for a few days worth of the script until I called the company and got it straightened out. Ahh the joys of state/low income insurance! And it would be disastrous I'd i didn't have my meds for a few days. I was so upset I begged the people on the phone and explained that I depend on these meds to function. And imagine if I had diabetes or something where I could of gotten seriously ill for not having my meds? Well insanity is pretty ill as well. Been there! Anyone else do this?

I totally do. Even meds I don't take anymore. It's like a safety blanket for my brain.

Rx,
I do the same. Better to have a lot than none at all.
Only problem with me is I don't throw away previous medications,
and I'm prone to try them again on my own. Not recommended

Yep. I have a cabinet full of them, often due to dosage changes. The only things I got rid of were ambien and benzos because I tend to misuse them if they're around.

Yes. When I have med changes I keep the old ones.
I have a ex -friend ( the guy who's been embezzling ) he works but says he can't afford his Meds. So I gave him 2 big bottles of Cymbalta.
( I'll never take them again they were almost impossible to wean off.

I don't share Meds in the states though.

My husband takes my old Valium at night when he can't sleep.

Dose changes is the reason my nightstand drawer is full of pill bottles. One is essentially a full bottle because after a couple of dosage I couldn't take it. But even though I still take that med (Wellbutrin), I can't cut them in half or anything since they are SR.

Heck why not? They belong to you. Think no further than that! Plus, if you have a copay, you paid for them too.
Thanks for this!

I have a ziplock bag of old medicines. Sometimes I take some to a pharmacy for disposal.

I had what felt like an entire pharmacy in my bathroom at my old apartment, but I went through and got rid of everything old/that I no longer was taking for my move, so now all my pill bottles are current.

I have a ton of antipsychotics and depakote lying around. I figure might as well keep it in case I need it again.
I've never had the problem of hoarding benzos...they get eaten right up.

I hoard my meds because it helps me feel secure. When I don't have extra I freak out. Never had problems with ins. The meds are my security blanket. Not sure that is healthy, but hoarding helps.

Yup. For the same reason -- fear of suddenly being cut off and having no money to do anything about it. I especially fear that situation if it were to happen with lamictal. That would not be good! A number of years ago, I actually calculated how many I'd need for a ramp down, and slowly set them aside. Just in case.

I don't have a current calculation, but do put any missed doses into an old bottle (with "backstock" written on it). In the interest of avoiding any potential expiration problems, I swap out periodically.

I need all the peace of mind of I can get(!)

I hoard all of me meds. Unfortunately I can't sell them because they don't get college kids high (joking) but I keep them for some reason. I have so much. I guess if I ever need something to fall asleep with I have three different kinds haha.

My closet has one container of the stuff I'm currently on and a second for old medications or different dosages. If there is an emergency I want to be able to be prepared and not worry about meds.

I used to keep old meds, but at the encouragement of my therapist and pdoc, I got rid of them for safety reasons. We keep only our current medications now in our house and I much prefer it this way. Having all of those old meds around just left too much temptation to self-medicate and/or abuse meds.
