I have Medicare insurance and I'm worried what my hospital bill will be.

Anyone know how much part A pays??

Usually Medicare pays 80%, and the rest you can file for financial aide with the hospital to write off the balance for low income. they are good about that. tc
Thanks for this!

80%. You probably have a max out of pocket but I'm not sure they have those with medicare. When I had medicare I had one of their supplemental plans that covered the other 20% so I didn't pay anything. But hospital bills are easy to pay, you can pay 10$ a month and as long as you pay every month they won't bother you.

Due to that hefty bill .. most "likely" since you are on SSDI they well automatically file with medicaid in your state and any other options for help on paying off a rather large balance.....

Hope everything goes well and works out to your advantage. You've got some great info here, so try to put it out of your mind.
Call a friend. Or go to the library. I buy books and magazines from our friends of the Library shop. 10 cents for National Geographic. 50 cents for Architectural Digest. Spy novels for my husband. Cookbooks. Lots of great stuff.
Sending love and good vibes your way.

Hallie,
They should be worried, not you. You already received the services.
They are the ones that have to figure out a way to collect.

It's actually $1200 copay for inpatient. Then everything is covered except drs. are covered at 80%.

Disability medicaid will cover anything after your spenddown which is determined by income. You can apply online or contact the billing office to see if they have any way to help (my hospital uses an agency to coordinate and they make it much easier).

Some hospitals will also give you financial assitance if you are in a bad place even with medicaid/medicare. I may have to do that to pay for my 2 hospitalizations in the last year.

Oh, and your 2nd hospitalization won't have a copay because it was so close to the first. I forget how many days it is but somewhere around 60 days you don't have a repeat copay. So the 2nd will just be the 20% for doctors.

This may be helpful? I don't have Medicare, so I'm not sure.
