My insurance company has really screwed me over and did not authorize my geodon. I have been on geodon for over 5 years and i take a massive dose. I know they denied it because it's over the FDA limit but it keeps me so calm and stable. I don't want to come off it, but the appeals process can take weeks and i only have enough for 5 days, so it'll be a quick titration down probably with a lot of anxiety, crying, and shaking.
My pdoc wants me to try rexulti, but i don't have high hopes because it's related to abilify and abilify made me suicidal. I told him i'd try it but asked him to give me more klonopin to get through the switch. I've been crying most of the day today because i don't want to switch meds and i'm angry at the insurance company. I don't understand why they just won't fill prescriptions like written. I was doing so good, and now there's this ********. I just want to give up and crawl in a hole somewhere. |

My pdoc got really excited about Rexulti (she's a pharmacist besides a pdoc so pays a lot of attention to how meds work).
Instead of just being a slighty modified Abilify when they started making Rexulti they asked what they wanted Abilify to do that it did not do already and then they made a drug that did that. So it is related to Abilify but also is a new drug, more than Invega say. So problems with abilify (I had bad ones) don't negate the chances Rexulti will work which is why we were really hoping I could try it.

I'm on Rexulti and it lifted my depression in three days. No side effects so far. I am on 2.0/day. Have been on it about 4-6 weeks.
I will warn you, it is ultra pricey. Our insurance was not excited.

I have an idea that might work for you...
First off, try the appeals process. (Can't hurt.) Second, what dose are you taking? Let's say you need 200mg a day but your insurance will only pay for 100mg a day. Get your pdoc to give you a 90-day prescription for 100mg a day. That will give you 45 days worth (i.e., 6 weeks worth) of 200mg. (Basically you will take two 100mg pills a day to get to your 200mg.) That should give you enough time to appeal, and if the appeal doesn't work, you still have time to titrate down slowly My point is, your insurance isn't going to know how much you take a day. They won't know if you take 1 pill or 5 pills. They'll assume you take 1 pill a day, but you will take 2 a day. |
