My husband likes to do errands and he normally goes to the grocery store. However, he has a bad cold and we need to get groceries.

I told him I would go tomorrow. I am scared to drive and worried about finding everything at the store. It's not very far away.

Since I've been sick he has done so much for me. I have been a slug, I guess. Just too much depression and anxiety.

I just want to get in the car, go get a few things at the grocery, and maybe drive thru McDonald's to get a $1 diet Coke. Is that too much to ask? What is wrong with me?

Thanks you guys...you're always so great.

Nothing ventured, nothing gained. And it might be fun. I'd opt for a vanilla cone at McDonnalds drive-thru.

I know how you feel. If it weren't for my wife, there would be no food in the house. You could always consider ordering your food through Pea Pod.

Pea Pod isn't here yet, Woolly.

I am 56 and my husband is 60. I panic at the thought of him getting sick. I don't know how I would make it.

I personally love to go to the grocery store, especially when I'm depressed. Something about the bright lights, bright colors, and the excitement of picking out things to eat lifts my mood. Maybe think of it as a pick-me-up rather than a bother? Make a list so you can stay focused. You'll feel so much better when you go do it. If you have an extra 10 bucks or so, get yourself some flowers or chocolates as a treat. <3 HUGS!

I too do not go to the store when depressed. I end up eating way more take out than I should. Or make a quick run for junk food here and there.
But writing a list is extremely helpful so you go in knowing exactly what you need instead of just walking around the store trying to figure it out.

Go and get the soft drink. Make the trip into a treat. A big step with a reward.

I write lists, & if possible I go to the stores online shop & find out what isles what I need is in so I can go directly to what I need & minimise becoming overwhelmed & confused. I find mostly the anticipation is worse than the actual act of going. Best of luck

I just made/received my first order from Jet.com and I highly recommend it. I swore I would never order groceries online and have them delivered. Now that I have... I may be hooked! I hope it goes well for you, let us know how it goes

I used to order my groceries online too. It saves you a lot of hassle, and I think it's easier to find what you want. All you have to do is use the search bar to find what you need.

The irony is, it was actually cheaper for me to order online and pay a delivery fee than it was to shop at my local grocery store.

Now that I've moved, there isn't any service like that. I used to be able to buy fresh milk, cheese, bacon, etc.. The closest I can get is Jet.com or Amazon Pantry.
Thanks for this!

I just wanted to report back in.

I did it. I drove to the grocery and got the food on the list. I then went over to McDonald's and got my Diet Coke. I ALSO drove (with my husband) to another short errand. My husband drove home from that because we had to stop at the bank.

My hands were pretty shaky at the grocery. I dropped a bunch of green beans on the floor but I picked them up. It was early, so I don't think anyone saw. I also got nervous at the check-out line. I didn't realize you had to slide your card in the bottom of the thingie so it can check the chip.

I was thinking of telling the cashier I had been sick and hadn't been to the store in a year, but I didn't. That probably would have just been embarrassing.

Anyway, so now I know I can go to the grocery. That's a big step.

Thank you all for your support. Next step is maybe to drive to the doctor.

Those new cards with the chip are confusing sometimes. Each store can be different, and it's difficult to know what store does what. Don't feel bad about not knowing it, I'm still confused despite using it regularly in stores that take them.

Thanks gina!

Just to add a bit...I drove to and from my bipolar support group with my husband in the car. It was really a good day.

The chips are new to everyone and everyone forgets to about it and does it wrong, not to mention that some stores aren't chip-ready yet. No need to explain to anyone at the store. They are totally used to everyone fumbling with those card readers.
