My anxiety levels are normally mild to moderate. However, these last few days my anxiety has been pretty severe. Like, I'm constantly jittery, I'm worrying about anything and everything, I'm super irritable, etc

I have Ativan, but only 15 pills. So, I don't really want to waste them. They're basically "emergency pills".

I've heard that propranolol is nice for anxiety, but would you consider it addicting? My pdoc won't up my Lexapro dosage because he insists it'll make me manic, so antidepressants are out of the picture.

Are there other medications like propranolol? I would like to research them and bring them up with my pdoc.

Thanks!!

I've heard Buspar (sp?) works. I haven't personally used it, but a friend of mine and I think a few on here have mentioned it as well.

I'm not allowed to have benzos anymore lol but the past week has been bliss thanks to gabapentin, buspar, and maybe some effects from the lamictal. I also have propranolol for tremor but the dosage is so low idk if it does anything for my anxiety. I have an appointment with the pdoc to hammer out my meds but this combo has brought more relief than anything else ever! Or maybe I'm just feeling better........who knows! Hope you find what works and quick 😇

Propranolol isn't addicting. Well, it doesn't have any withdrawal I should say. It really helps with the jitters.

Buspar didn't help me. But it helps others.

Understand your frustration regarding with anxiety meds. I can't take APs. Won't take benzos again. Don't know what's left for me.

Buspar was a godsend to me! I went from taking 4-6mg of klonopin daily to taking just 1mg at night for sleep, all within a few weeks! I highly suggest at least trying it.

you mention your anxiety has only been severe for a few days - why go straight to meds? Or are you thinking that it's worsening in general? (what I mean is, do you think this is more than a short-term rough spot that ativan could get you through?) I realize this isn't really what you're asking, but I've just had such horrible experiences getting OFF anxiety meds, and since it is one of the few things you can successfully treat without them, I thought I'd ask...

I think my anxiety is worsening in general.

About 10 years ago, my anxiety used to be so mild that I would often forget it was even there. Then a few years ago, it started becoming much more apparent. My anxiety baseline would be mild, but sometimes my anxiety would "flare up". Eventually, I noticed that my anxiety baseline had transitioned from a mild level to a moderate level. (So, my anxiety ranged from mild to moderate, but was usually moderate.) Now I foresee my anxiety transitioning again, this time from moderate to severe.

My med combo seems to be helping. But the one is a Benzo.
So I guess your Pdoc won't allow it.
You also have a combination of disorders.

I'm only battling bipolar disorder.

My animals help to keep me calm. Right now I'm listening to books on CD. It keeps my mind occupied.

Vitamins help. Vitamin C in high doses.
Sunshine.
Good diet. Controlled sleeping.
All help anxiety levels.
Much love. PM me if necessary.

Hi BB: I'm sorry you're Not doing good. Do you have additional pressure?, or life is the same.

Lamictal and Latuda are supposed to stabilize anxiety too.
I was on propanolol for hand tremors years ago. I don't think it has any withdrawal symptoms or I would remember.
Benzos are bad. Really bad. Stay away from that Ativan, unles is absolutely necessary.
Some people use Vistaril with success. Check with your doctor, it has a few contraindications.
Hope you feel better soon.
