I think it'd be cool to get to know you guys better. So, I came up with this thread

What's your age & 1 random fact about yourself? (And no, your random fact can't be "I'm bipolar". Pick something unique that no one would know.)

I think most people know this already, but I'm 24.

1 random fact about myself? Hm... When I was in 7th grade, I didn't really care about school, so I purposely wrote down stupid things on my tests because I didn't give a damn. Well, based on what I wrote, my reading teacher was thoroughly convinced that I was mentally handicapped. I mean, she literally assumed that I was a special ed student with a low IQ. So, while other students in my class were given challenging tests, I was given special ed tests (which were meant for low IQ students). Then I didn't have to work as hard as everyone else, and I'd end up with better grades than them. Well, that is until my parents found out and yelled at the teacher for calling me a special ed student. Apparently it's illegal to give a student "special ed" work unless the teacher and the parents sign a legal agreement. Oh well. It was fun while it lasted.
Thanks for this!

Very nice story!!.

I'm 66 and look 80. Or used to. I started exercising again two days ago. I'm at 70 now.
If we talk school, my life was the opposite. My family has the notion that, since my father was a genious, I can't be any less. They still insist I'm the smartest of the family of the old generation. My son, TG is a true genious and that has diffused pressure from me.
I went to high school in Mexico. Being the only foreigner amongst 2000 Mexicans.
Needless to say, life was not peachy. But I made it.

Hahah that's funny that you bring up those writings. When someone ticked me off in grade school, I'd write curse words very small so no one could see them lol. It definitely helped get the anger out! Maybe I should start doing it again.

Anyways... I'm 28 and string beans are probably the only food that causes me to literally gag. The smell, look, everything just makes me gag.

I just turned 29. When I was sixteen, I volunteered with a cat rescue group. For two years I went every Sunday and cleaned the cat cages, and then stayed and answered questions and took applications for the cats. Somehow I managed to convince my mom to let me foster a cat. We ended up keeping her because she loved my brother. Then I began fostering more cats and kittens. At one point I had sixteen kittens living in my room. I don't know how my mom got on board with that except she wasn't good at saying no. I bottle fed kittens, took them to the vet, handled their adoptions, the whole nine. I only stopped because I went away to college. When I left college six weeks into it I was too mentally ill to take on the responsibility again.

Someday when I have my own place I might consider fostering again. It really helped me.

I'm 33....and I see dead people

Ok ok....I hate veggies. I don't eat any of them. At all. Except corn and potatoes, but I've been told that doesn't count. I have the palate of a five year old.

I'm in my mid 50's.

I went to the University when I was 16. I spent a year in Mexico City at UMNAM. A wonderful school. I had a Mexican boyfriend who was very passionate. He spoke 4 languages fluently.
Later I got into Law School.

I knew I was sick at a very young age. But I had a huge drive to succeed.

I'm 25, though no one ever believes I'm as old as I say...and my random fact is that I have a very small piece of cartilage missing from the bridge of my nose -- when I was a kid, in 4th or 5th grade, my younger sister and I got into a fight and she threw one of those jumbo pencils at my face and it hit my nose dead on, leaving a permanent hole in the cartilage. You can see the dent in certain lighting and angles, but it can always be felt and that grosses people out lol!

I'm 22 and I love kpop and korean variety shows. I enjoy listening to songs, and watching the comedy shows which make laugh even when I'm severely depressed.

I'm 33, too (a popular age on here)!! I have a twin sister (fraternal) who is NOT bipolar or mentally ill. We're best buds and she is so very grounded and rational about things. It's great to talk to her and get advice from her.

I would like to hear more about what the Ashtanga Yoga has done for your MI. What changes have you noticed with it? How often do you practice? Do you go to a class or do you practice independently with a video or something?

Practicing has helped to calm me ( I have severe anxiety and OCD as well) and make me stronger emotionally. I have also become physically stronger since Ashtanga is a vigorous practice. My love of yoga has made me become dedicated to a fitness regime. I try to practice at least three times a week in a class and nearly everyday on my own. Focusing on my fitness has given me control in one aspect of my life which is very important to me since I have so little control over other aspects such as my emotions.

I'm 24

I am still trying to figure out what i want to be when i grow up, and i'm working on boxing and mixed martial arts in general for the fun of it.

In high school one year, i took my finals with a feather and vial of ink (on a scantron). I also brought a rotary phone in and put it on my desk to protest the oppressive no texting rules. I was a frequent guest of the principal's office.

Boxing is super fun. I was surprised how much I liked it when I first tried it!

Right now I'm taking beginner lessons for boxing techniques, and beginner lessons for boxing bag workouts.

I've never tried MMA. My gym offers MMA classes, but they're only advanced level classes. No beginner classes. Since I'm a beginner at boxing, I would never try advanced MMA.

I'm 31 and my random fact is I completed The Duke Of Edinburgh Bronze Award when I was 18. You have 3 section to complete for 6 months (community, something fun and a new skill) then you do a mock expedition hike up a Glen (valley) then a final expedition up a bigger (valley) you have to use sense of direction and co-ordinates

*the same year I attended my final year at school (Mon-Fri (, worked 12 hours in a Supermarket, worked during the school holidays looking after disabled children, paired up with a 1st year girl to assist her with reading/writing and maths, was in the school choir, on the year book committee, was a member of the pair reading and social skills groups helping kids learn to read better and to behave better and sit my exams....... we have found out this was all done when I was at least hypo manic*

Ooops!
