Obviously mixed episodes show us that any combination is possible.

In my case, I usually get "pure" hypomania in spring. Not tired and feel good. This year, got feel good with normal sleep pattern for 2 months, and just recently feel way less need for sleep with normal good.

Does this say anything to you? Trying to figure this out - would appreciate any help.

I can be hypomanic and still sleep fine. It might take me longer to fall asleep, however, due to racing thoughts. Listening to guided meditations helps my thoughts to shut up so I can fall asleep.

My depressive episodes are often mild depression with severe anxiety, so my energy level is still strong because of the anxiety (often can't sit still). So I guess they could possibly be considered "mixed episodes." They suck. :-(

I think one of my bigger questions was about the ability to sleep when hypo, which you answered. So it can happen.

Ug this BP stuff is so hard to put logic to. So hard to predict what's coming. Which is both exciting and frustrating.

It's mostly about how you use your energy. Depression may be least energy-efficient, so you might spend a lot of energy. But (energy) exhaustion doesn't mean you can sleep. You might get non-affective psychosis or psychosis during depression because of exhaustion, while being unable to sleep.

Energy-efficiency doesn't mean energy-expenditure of course. You might use most energy when stable (if your mania ends because of anxiety, not exhaustion, but maybe always).

Something like that.
