I was MIS-diagnosed with BPII because of mood swings which were actually caused by low testosterone. Now testosterone is fixed and I feel way better or at least I did until I started coming off all the bipolar meds, which I took for years:
- Gabapentin - Lamictal - Gabitril - Hydroxyzine - Trazadone - Seroquel - Baclofen I wanted to do it slow, but I was also into fitness and most of these meds caused weight gain and made it pointless to diet or exercise. So I went cold turkey on most of them... A HORRIBLE month went by and things got better, but I am at 30 percent of my capacity... I have no mood wings or depression, but anxiety and insomnia are un-bearable... I can't sleep at all no matter what meds I try and day-time anxiety makes it impossible to do much of anything, other than lifting weights and doing cardio. Has anyone gone off so many meds at once? Any idea how long before I get back to my normal self? |

i am praying for you, praying for a peace that passeth all understanding. i was at a revival out in a field two nights ago and a pastor prayed for me because I was struggling with a battle going on in my head and I felt pure waves of peace float over me for three days now. I am going to try and pass it on to you. God please unlock Monarch's head and heart and and remove anything that is not of peace and serenity. Please heal Monarch's body and mind from the effects of the medication and from every negative thing that has impacted his/her life. Please bring complete healing at once to his entire being right now. In Jesus name I pray, amen.

Hydroxyzine was used for anxiety I'm assuming?
Maybe you could go back on that, and it would help a little.

It helps, but it causes weight gain too and doesn't help me sleep. I am just curious if long-term insomnia can cause major brain damage... It can cause low testosterone, but that is not the case since I am treating it...

Yes I've done this and it was pure hell. About a month ago I had a dangerous side effect and had to quit my stabilizer of all things. I was mixed for two weeks until my pdoc finally put me on gabapentin. But I've never quit then ALL at once. I know I'd end up in IP if I did that! Just be careful and if you want to go back on them for like a week and then ween off them, I think that would be safer. But don't take my work for it as I'm not a pdoc. Good luck!

Have you ever tried melatonin for sleep? That could help your insomnia.

I actually forgot to mention that I have Xyrem, which is GHB, a GABA-B agonist for narcolepsy that puts a person in a deep sleep, but it makes you wake up with increased heart rate and anxiety (for like 5 hours after you wake up) due to rebound dopamine-rush-effect. I want to avoid this medication because of that, but I don't know what is worse - not sleeping at all, feeling like a zombie, not being able to hit the gym OR getting those 3-4 hours of sleep on Xyrem, but spending the day with high energy levels and anxiety... |
