Hey everybody. I got prescribed gabapentin and took first dose last night. This morning, I feel "floaty". For lack of a better term. Just kind of spacey, a little silly (just a little), my attention seems drawn and lingering to stupid things. That sounds weird. Example: walking to bus, there was a noise (just a little nothing sound repeated a couple times), and I looked over and kept walking (usually, I'd just glance then pay attention to walking again).

I'm not worried about this, it just seems a little weird and I wondered if this sounds familiar to anyone. I looked up side effects, and they mentioned dizziness, problems with coordination and shakiness, tiredness, sleepiness (I really didn't want to get up, (but that's not exactly unusual, lol). None of these "quite" describe it.

The med bottle had a thing saying to carry info that you're taking it(!) I've never had one say that before, and I'm not really sure why this one does.

I'm not worried, so much as wondering if others have experienced this. Maybe it could be described as slightly punchy. (?)

Yes I feel this way when I take neutontin. In high high doses they are used as a street drug even!

I took that drug for one week when I lived with my sister. It gave me a headache so bad that I thought it was giving me brain damage. OMG it hurt so bad and it did not let up. My lovely sister told me to keep taking it. Finally after a week I dumped it down the toilet. Sorry your having weird symptoms. I didn't notice anything but the headache but the headache was so severe I doubt I would have noticed anything else.

It just makes me feel sort of calm. It feels nice. But for me it's not like OH MY GOD!

However, if I take 2400mg at the same time it feels pretty good! I can get ****ed up off of that dose. lol

Yeah, I'm at work now. A bit punchy. Like I keep feeling compelled to giggle(!) But there's nothing funny, lol. I was alone here for a bit and started laughing. No reason. Weird. Break over, back to work.

It works on the same receptors as klonopin so even though maybe it's not a benzo maybe your body really likes having those receptors tweaked? It just makes me feel really relaxed although when I was on a much higher dose it made me loopy. I did things like send my pdoc an email about her that was supposed to go to a friend (oops) or sent other emails that said "lkajdfaoisdfuaoid" and was sure I made sense. My dose was lowered pretty quickly then.

You mean that DOESN'T make sense??!! Lol. Classic.

Hmmm. Same receptors as klonopin, huh? I've had it a few times, but don't remember anything unusual. Closest to that would be my PRN for xanax. Either for having a panic attack or to sleep (more often for that). No reaction to that except making me tired (which keeps me to taking it only with substantial panic attacks, so that's not such a bad thing).

Calm. Yeah. That's how I'm feeling now, raspberrytorte. It's lunchtime.
Thanks for this!

How much do you take? I take 100 mg and I feel like it does nothing at all.

I take 300mg 3x's a day and I don't feel a thing. But it has stabled me pretty good. Bad news is I'm out and the pharmacy called and said my Medicaid was shut off!! So I've been making phone calls all day dealing with it

I take it at night and it sedates me. My balance/coordination are a bit off if I wake up a few hours after taking it.

100 mg is a very tiny dose. I take that much PRN sometimes, usually if all my other anxiety meds aren't working and need a boost but that alone wouldn't help me. Everyone is different but gabapentin doses usually are quite a bit higher.

I felt very spacey the first few days I was on it. There was one day that I stared at the wall all day. I adjusted to it after about a week.

300 mg. Supposed to be 1-2 hours before bedtime (so once a day). I took it with my pm meds. As the day went on, the feeling wore off. I suspect it'll be a bit wonky for awhile till I adjust. It was actually prescribed for RLS (restless legs), chosen because it can play nice with my other meds (that's not *quite* how the doctor put it, lol, but that was the gist of it ).

Pfizer's making it rain again from off label uses of Neurontin.

Bipolar and substance abuse, it is a big issue.

In 1999, a Pfizer executive was so mystified by Neurontin’s popularity he called it the “snake oil of the twentieth century.”

It's apparently popular in jail population, and they are no chemist. Say you have a different neurochemistry than the most, treatment resistant or whatever, if so, this single drug could potentially get you too euphoric, even psychotic without the help of an interaction with other chemical substances.

I care about you, I hope you read up as much as you can on this new medication, with so much history behind it, you're bound to learn a thing or two from experimenters before you. BipolarReddit is also another good source of info, I've been reading what I like to see there. Good luck.

I have been taking it for about 5 years and been on 800mg 3 times a day for the last year at least. It does help with anxiety and isn't as addictive as clonozepam. I am also taking adderall and prozac so I guess this helps the Anxiety.
