I'm Sinking more everyday since I quit abilify due to akathisia. I wanted to try and go med free but I can't function like this. So just wondering in personal experience what med brought you out of depression the quickest? I know everybody is different but I'm looking for ideas..thx!

I'd say lamictal did.

I feel like it started working right away too. I was bad though and started at 25mg and the next day went all the way up to 200mg. I didn't titrate at all. (I like living life on the edge.)

I hope you start feeling better soon, jacky!

Oh, ****ing ZOLOFT! I took that and an hour later was above cloud nine.

No med ever catapulted me out of depressing, it was always a long process. The best combo I've had though is lamictal and laudta. I take propranolol for anxiety and I think that helped me not get the akathesis that some get on it. I also take it before bed so I don't feel the side effects, I sleep though them. You might ask your doc about taking cogent end or propranolol at the be gaining of any AP so it's less likely to result in akathesis.

Paxil, in combination with Lamictal, Trileptal, and Risperdal. Everybody's different, though. SSRIs now make me too hypo so I can't take them.

Emsam. Combined with Seroquel to bring me down b/c it is somewhat stimulating at first (I adjusted in a few months).

A long time ago, the first med I tried was an old tricyclic, Imipramine, & it was like a miracle. Brought me right up & out of a deep, dark place I’d never experienced before. But its side effect of constipation was crazy; once a week was bizarre. Having said that, it never bothered me or caused any kind of discomfort.

Nothing I've been on since that first time has ever had the same dramatic result.

For this last depressive episode, Prozac & Latuda were added to Effexor. I believe it has finally brought me up & out, & that I've stabilized.

I was on lamictal when I had my psychotic break . So I'm scared off it for life
Some doctors say the low doses are activating aND act like an antidepressant so maybe that's what happened
Other doctors say the lamictal had nothing to do with it I was just heading there
Eg it her way I'm scared of it but I wish I wasn't because it worked for so many

Emsam has almost no side effects. At first I had some skin reactions to the patch but they changed the adhesive and never break out now. It is a little stimulating but not a problem at all. The first few weeks I needed some extra PRNs but that was it. I even lost weight on it until I had to be on more Seroquel. It's been a great drug for me and continues to work great for 7 years. My pdoc says it doesn't seem to poop out. There is the MAOI thing but at the low dose you don't have any restrictions. My dr doesn't make me follow much restriction (just caution and common sense about how much I consume) b/c she talked to the man who developed it and he told her the FDA only put restrictions on that dose because they were afraid of an MAOI without restrictions). On the high dose I follow restrictions but I've not been on the high dose much.

It's a wonder drug for me. It and clozaril have saved my life.

I should say that it is stimulating when I get manic and we have to adjust my AP dose but that would happen anyway. It was a problem when I was maxed out on Seroquel and we wound up cutting the patches to get some custom low doses or patching every other day but that worked fine. And now that I'm not maxed out on AP I'm not concerned at all.

If the Abilify helped your depression then you should consider reinstating it with something to alleviate the akathisia. Abilify though is only approved for treating depression as an adjunct. So you would still have to use an antidepressant as your main drug. None of the SSRI's helped me. Lamictal did help some. (It's important to titrate Lamictal very slowly no matter how daring you are. SJS is a possibly fatal side effect otherwise. ) For me though Wellbutrin was the best antidpressant. Just the same, you have to give all antidepressants some time to work. Catapulting isn't in their nature.

Prozac made me manic and Effexor worsened my depreason as time went by. I don't know if any of the ADs like that are the way to go with me. Idk I just don't want depression period lol
Imagine life without recurring depression sigh
That's the dream life
Ya the abilifye shot was strong and it worked for me in all ways. But that akathesia though.....

Was functioning a little on cymbalta but constantly sleeping or just staying in bed. Was prescribed Wellbutrin in addition and have been more motivated and focused and able to enjoy activities. I've also been in a better mood. So I guess the combo of all three (Wellbutrin, cymbalta, and Latuda.

Honestly the only thing that seems to pull me out of my deepest depressions is ect. That being said I am now on emsam and I have been stable since my last round of ECT In March. I'm hoping emsam will keep the depression at bay so there is no need for ECT. No other antidepressant has worked for me. I am on the 6mg patch every other day.

Only thing is there is no generic and insurance companies don't like to cover it because of that. I'm not sure if my new insurance is going to cover it or not. It cost me $150 last month for a sixty day supply.

The Emsam people have been really great at giving me free Emsam with an exemption into patient assistance (I don't qualify b/c I have Medicare but Medicare won't pay for it). There is also a discount card if you have normal insurance.

Twelve years ago I secretly "catapulted myself out of depression" into mania with a self-prescribed flood dose of DXM (dextromethorphan) in the form of two boxes of OTC cough suppressant tablets swallowed with the disgusted determination of a drug mule pounding condoms packed with smack. I read something on Erowid or somewhere about DXM's off-label antidepressant potential. It was irresponsible, ill-advised and possibly suicidal, but it worked, and I didn't vomit or pass out or break anything. The DXM high was really nice while it lasted. I haven't tried it again since. I'm neither a doctor nor a pharmacist; don't touch DXM at the suggestion of this post. Don't even leave the house.

Welbutrin was the only thing to get me out of depression, unfortunately I went hypomanic for a couple of months then into a a suicidal mania in which I OD and had to go to the ER and a 72hr hold in the ER (they couldn't find a psych hospital that would take me), but boy was it good while it lasted.

Latuda has been the first drug to help me with depression in years.
Wellbutrin used to work for me, but then my depressions became too agitated and Wellbutrin added to the agitation. I am using Latiuda with low-dose citalopram now, hoping to change to Latuda and Wellbutrin soon.
