Am I bipolar?

I was on a gizilion anti-deps and had horrible side effects or they stopped working. I kept feeling terribly depressed or wonderful. One day I would be unable to motivate myself to do anything and sink into a hole and then for about 2 or 3 days I would be in a great mood, clean my house, organize everything, go out with friends who I had been neglecting, etc...

The psychiatrist said that I had depression for sure and possibly bipolar II. He gave me lithium and an anti-dep. I stopped the anti-dep (hate taking too many meds and he said he planned to wean me off them).

Doing great on lithium alone. Feel very tired on it, but other than that I have been stable for 1 month (been on therapeutic dose for that long). Does that mean I'm bipolar?

Sounds like your pdoc feels like it is a possibility...at least from what you indicated...

When my gp suspected bp because of ad's not working and family history....he put me on the the litium too.

Went to pdoc and he confirmed a dx of bp.Been on lithium since.

I doubt your pdoc would have put you on it unless hes pretty sure thats your dx.
Hes probably waiting to see how the lithium works out too.

I have been on lithium for two weeks now (ever since I was diagnosed as being bipolar). I'm feeling a lot better now. Take that as you wish, but I know that the lithium has sure helped me with my bipolar issues.

Lithium is an excellent med, and has the best track record through out the years.
Lots of luck with the med(s), always keep faith and patience in yourself and hold onto that there are many possibilities for positive outcomes.
Take care,
DE
