I got out of IP a week ago and almost punched the wall when I stepped on the scale. I gained 5lbs from the wonderful food there ugh. And I have an eating disorder which is making me want to restrict right now. Anyone else gain in IP?

Wow, that's awful. 5 lbs is a lot for 5 days.

I've never been to IP (mostly b/c I'm too scared to go and b/c I can't afford it), but that really sucks. Sorry.

I would go stir crazy if I couldn't exercise.

Depending on which hospital I go to I either gain weight or lose it due to the food. The last one I went to the food was good and I gained weight after a one-week stay.

I always gain weight IP. Usually 10 lbs. N I find it very difficult to lose it. Sometimes I can't.

Rx, it's water weight...maybe 1 lb at the most. Don't stress. Just eat a little lighter for a few days and you'll be back to your normal self. I don't think you should worry, ok?

I've only gained in IP once. I usually eat next to nothing. However, I did gain 15 lbs at a nice IP residential place during a six month stay. It wasn't hospital food. I cannot eat hospital food. I drink juice, which I dislike. I give my food away instead. It's a problem for me but I don't plan on returning to the hospital ever again.

I gained weight IP also...my thing was, there were no snacks on the floor so when I went to the cafeteria I loaded up and ate like it was my last meal LOL I purposefully chose the hospital I had heard had the best food and they were right, it was good! My overall experience at that hospital was good so I have no qualms about going again if I ever needed it. I just hope to not ever need it again.

I gained 3 lbs. in a week when I was IP. The food was good and served hot three times a day (I usually only eat 2 meals a day), plus snacks. All I had for shoes was a pair of slippers, so I didn't get any exercise either. It all came off in a matter of a couple of weeks though.

I really think they should have a workout room in IP. Working out boosts your mood too. I think it would be a good idea. Hell, after what my insurance paid out to them, I think I could of bought a whole gym

The first time I went ip I lost so much weight the nurses thought I was anorexic. The food was awful.

My hospital has an exercise bike available and they encourage use. They also have a Wii Fit, yoga mats, exercise DVDs, etc. It's pretty nice. They used to have junky snacks but now most of the snacks are really healthy as well. My first admission they had sugary sodas; now they don't even have diet except for ginger ale you have to ask for. I still gain weight fairly easily in there though; in February I didn't but I made sure I had at least 2 servings of vegetables per meal and I ate those first.

It didn't matter much though; as soon as clozaril hits my bloodstream every night I'm starving until I fall asleep. My current project is finding a way to make smoothies with spinach, fruit and Greek yogurt that are filling enough I don't need snacks in the evening.

Yeah, it's a pretty great place. Remember I suggested you check into whether UM's mood disorder unit might help you? That's why. Mood disorder units tend to be pretty amazing because they at least start with grant money. I remember that the unit I found for you looked really nice, nicer than where I go in at least some ways. (I don't remember what). It's not perfect but it's better than most. The biggest problem is it is tiny so if you pace a lot as I tend to do you don't have far to go. 168 steps round trip.

Oh yea I do remember! I will look into it. I totally forgot. And they put you in a IP (a good one!)? It sounds nice. I'm going to google right now. Thanks!

I don't think you necessarily go IP but it's there if you need hospitalization. Mine doesn't have an OP component; can't remember if yours does. I think yours might. The one I worked with at diagnosis was all OP, no IP. So it varies. But I've found it 100% worth driving 2.5 hours each way for both my pdoc and IP.

I live in a small town and when I go manic and go to the ER they send me where ever they have a bed so I can wind up basically anywhere in the state that has an opening.

Anyway I have been to some really **** hole hospitals and a few good ones. The best one I have been to has a gym and a indoor basket ball court. Its not on the ward but they take groups of people there every other day. Its a really nice hospital though, the best one in the state. Only problem with it is that its 2 hours away from my home.

Other places I have been your lucky to get a working shower. Real dumps that ought to be closed down. Now though my pdoc wants my husband to take me into the nearby city to be admitted there. Haven't been to their hospital yet, hopefully its a good one.

This is exactly how it is here. Wherever there's an open bed, that's where you're going. Bad or good. The one I was just in wasn't bad. Had awesome showers!
