About a month ago I started taking cold meds to suppress my appetite in hopes to curb my appetite... Actually I was abusing them... Taking about 8 pills every 3 hours. It worked and I lost weight but my husband caught me last night and it all stopped. And today I lost control and binged. I don't even know what to think.

I have high prolactin levels which is a weight gainer. I'm on clozapine and the Invega shot ... And I quit smoking a year ago. All of those contribute to weight gain.

Oops... I thought I was choosing the better one since the Tylenol is what killed your liver.

I won't do it anymore. I was just so over being this weight. But I do know the risks and somethings aren't worth be skinny for.

Hmmm....I thought ibuprofen was more dangerous for the stomach due to bleeding? It may be bad for the liver, too. I do know that excessive acetametaphin (Tylenol) is very bad for your liver.

I think you should forgive yourself. Don't beat yourself up. I do think you should see your doctor for a checkup. Make sure everything is ok. I can't take ibuprofen anymore - it was creating tears in my stomach. I was trying to manage chronic pain with ibuprofen and it did damage my stomach after years of use. I healed but cannot take it again. Ever.

Please don't be too hard on yourself, no one is perfect. But do get a checkup. Take care. xo

any overdose of cold meds is going to be bad for your liver and kidneys, and with the bipolar meds causing this kind of trouble we don't need to add to it. I think maybe you're a little hypo and better tell your pdoc about what you're doing.
Thanks for this!

Acetaminophen, ibuprofen, naproxen (Aleve, Naprosyn) are all hard on the liver. About the only thing that is safe as a pain reliever and anti-inflammatory, unless you have a bleeding condition, is coated aspirin.

I've done this, 99 and ended up quite out of my head. The sinus meds often contain pseudo ephedrine which is a monster of an ingredient. They use it to make methamphetamines which is extra disastrous for the bipolar mind.

Be careful!

I saw this and had to weigh in. Please don't do this anymore. Motrin or ibuprofen is also extremely bad for the kidneys. I have kidney issues and I am not allowed to touch the stuff anymore. If you wreck your kidneys there isn't a whole lot they can do for it besides dialysis and I hear that's a pretty bad life that I know you don't want. Please just loose weight the old fashioned way, in a healthy way.

Thank you to everyone who responded. I feel very embarrassed for what I did now. I had therapy yesterday and came clean about what I had been doing. I plan on telling my pdoc as well. Thanks again everyone.

some of these over the counter meds used to be by prescription only. Benadryl is one of them.
we did not mean to embarrass you.
