Do you fully trust your mental health providers? I'm talking about pdocs, therapists, case workers -- you name it

I trust my pdoc 95% of the time, and that's because he'll occasionally talk out of his @ss about BP. So I more or less believe what he says unless something he says sounds suspiciously wrong. Though, he does specialize in the treatment of BP and other mood disorders, so I'm usually very inclined to trust him.

On the other hand, I can't say I trust my therapist very much. I trust him maybe 50% of the time. lol. My biggest problem with him is that he sometimes tries to "normalize" my feelings and behaviors during an episode. For example, I'll go on a $5000 shopping spree because I'm hypo/manic, and he'll say something like, "Yeah, sometimes I go on shopping sprees too. It happens." And since he doesn't always trust what I tell him, I can't really trust him back. Trust goes both ways.

Yes, I trust both my psych nurse practitioner and my therapist. It took a while but I got lucky when i hit on this combo for treatment.

I trust my therapist, my GP and I have yet to meet my new PDoc, my old one like writing scripts and gave good advice but I did not get to see her enough. I had a psych DR in the hospital flag me for something that was not accurate based on telling him about some experiences that were 23-5 years in the past and long since taken care of. It has affected the way that I get treated when I go to the ER. So I am a bit wary....

I have had several pdocs that I did not trust at all. But I do trust my current pdoc. I feel like he works with me instead of just treating me like a science project.....like which pill cocktail will make this woman stop calling my office...

No not really but I trust him more than my GP because after being in the hospital over that whole pancreas thing I am afraid she's going to give me a diabetes med that's going to kill me when I see her again Tuesday.

November cant come soon enough because that's when I get my new GP. I am praying she's better and actually listens to me. The one I have now don't listen to me at all and I really am afraid she's going to kill me.

I also secretly fear that one day they will lock me up and throw away the key over this whole bipolar thing. I really fear going manic because I am afraid they might not let me out of the hospital again. It might be irrational but I do fear it. I just keep it to myself for the most part.

I wonder if we have the same therapist... He did similar stuff to me all the time. And then I ended up in the hospital.. and then he asks if we ended our talks too soon. His problem was that he didn't seem onboard or even knew about BPII or hypomania.

I probably don't need to tell you how I feel about my pdoc and therapist, considering I'm in the midst of transitioning to both a new pdoc and probably a new therapist. I just wasn't comfortable with the old pdoc and didn't feel like he was completely interested in me either. It wasn't so much a trust issue as it was a communication issue.

I don't trust any of them..period. If I didn't have bad episodes, I would drop them all like a hot potato. I might drop them anyway, I made it a long time on my own and they don't seem to know their butt from a hole in the ground.

I trust them because they've earned it. And they've earned it the hard way, especially my therapist who I didn't trust as easily just because he's a man. But I've seen my pdoc 13 years and my therapist 10 so we have a long history. I certainly didn't trust them immediately.

I trust as far enough as to let them treat me. I wouldn't say I completely trust them.

Yes I trust the one I'm seeing now. But the last one and others I've seen I didn't trust.

I trust my pdoc but It irritates me that I'm 7377 times smarter than her and she's clearly a newborn when it comes to knowing her stuff. I'm the one that tells her what it is I need and she just says "wow you really know your stuff, so smart!" Well yea after being in that system for 12 years plus work in medical, you learn. I understand she's young and new but every time I get a new med she runs out of her office to talk it over with an older pdoc though!!! Like she has no clue! It's very annoying and I just wish that she was more trusting of her own knowledge and not have to bug a different pdoc every single time. I mean, if you really have to do that then you shouldn't be working alone with your own name on the door. Just sayin!

Could she be a resident? In that case she'd need approval before doing anything final.

I am fortunate that I have a pdoc/therapist that I can trust. I have been seeing him for 9 years. My previous pdoc was good for about 6 years, before I lost my trust in her. She had been fairly easy to reach in an emergency in addition to being helpful, but she started to make me feel worse when she called. She would bring up hospitalization all of the time and say it was all she could do for me, before she had listened for very long. I just thought she wanted to hand my care over to the hospital, so she didn't have to deal with me. I thought she didn't have any idea what to do with me. Seventy percent of her clients were kids/adolescents with ADHD. All she had to do for most was write a prescription for a stimulant.
