My next pdoc app I'm going to suggest trying a different AP since my current one isn't working.
I was wondering everyone's experiences with either drug. Thanks!

Risperdal made me bounce off the walls, and couldn't concentrate on anything. Seroquel was an ok drug, just stopped working. Will make you tired and hungry though.

Risperdal cause lactation , hunger and weight gain.
Invega is the refined version of Risperdal and it was weight neutral for me. Seroquel make me non stop hungry and that's not good for an anorexic .

I took seroquel along with depakote, I called them the dynamic duo of fat pills and I was very sleepy all the time, not sure which was the culprit really...saphris worked better for me.It would put me right to sleep within 15 min and after initial sleepy mornings, that side effect went away. I had sleep problems for a long time, went from lunesta to seroquel to saphris.

Took both before, both were extremely sleepy for me. Seroquel did give me heartburn no matter what I ate though, not really a common side effect from what I understand though so idk.

Seroquel caused massive weight gain for me, but it did somewhat stabilise my mood. I had to stop taking it (under guidance) because weight gain is not an option for me.

Risperdal brought me back from the edge, but as a long term med it zombified me.
I cut the dose down to 1/4mg when highly agitated and it was enough to keep me from snapping. This was coupled with Depakote

I took Risperdal for over a year. It was great until my hands and feet swelled and I had to come off it.
I don't remember much about Seroquel except it made me very hungry. |

Risperdal worked well for me when I took it.
Seroquel was amazing for helping my brain to "quiet down" and not be racing all the time. Unfortunately it also caused constant hunger, drowsiness, and weight gain.

Risperdal-caused lactation (not very fun)
-made me feel out of it Seroquel- what I currently take and have for 16 years, 800 mgs a day -did cause sleepiness at first which was welcome -does increase appetite and lead to some weight gain, but nothing like Zyprexa The weight gain was in the beginning and I don't have that problem anymore. Good luck in finding the right AP! Have you considered an older first generation antipsychotic. Haldol was very effective for me as an add on to Seroquel. It is weight neutral.

Seroquel works for me. I take 200 mg in the evening and it's also my prn at 25 mg. 1-3 times daily. It started out as my secondary medicine, then became my main one. I had food cravings and weight gain before taking it, but became motivated to lose weight and joined Weight Watchers 5 months ago. At first the drowsiness was something to contend with, but my body has adjusted, and my experience feels more like being settled down. It's interesting to hear about all the variety of experiences we have taking the same medicines.

Seroquel has some awful side effects (sleepiness [for me, including the next day, I take it at night], hunger and potential weight-gain). But I've had two pdocs now swear by it, that it helps with both depression and mania, with insomnia, and for acute mania it can bring you down pretty quickly.
I used to hate taking it, but now I do see that the pros outweigh the cons and have made my peace with it. Best of luck in your decision! |
