puppy apreciation

let's share our love for our puppies (says the woman who does not actually own a puppy, but wants one)

so puppy themed questions:

what kind of puppy do you have

how long have you had the puppy

what's the puppy's name

good things about the puppy?

bad things about the puppy?

(if you want, a puppy picture!)

and yes, I am actually posting this. a thread on puppies
Thanks for this!

Well she isn't technically a puppy but she is the size of one. I have a toy poodle she is really cuddly and soft and fluffy and she is smart and super cute.
Thanks for this!

...and I have one that is not the size of a puppy, but barely over 2 years old, still acts like a puppy.
Keen is a greyhound we rescued from the tracks. He's good for me because he gets me out of the house when I would rather just sleep, but that's exactly the reason I don't love him with my whole heart.
It is lots of fun to watch him run when he' off leash, though.

I have a 3-month old Cane Corso (Italian Mastiff) puppy. We've had her for about 6 weeks.

THE GOOD STUFF: She's highly intelligent and wants to train. She's super soft, and when she's tired she's lovely to pet. She is old enough now to sleep through the night without having to get up to go to the bathroom (the first 4 weeks were HELL). She will eventually be an awesome family/guard dog. She wants to play with, but not eat, our cat, older dog, kids, and chickens. She does not charge at people visiting the house or pester them for attention (our older dog is a labrador - attention hound). She generally minds me pretty well, depending on the distractions around. She's super adorable and I can tell she'll grow into a beautiful adult dog.

CHALLENGES: She's teething, which can be a problem. She tries to mouth all of us frequently; we're getting there with putting toys in her mouth while we pet her so she doesn't chew on us. She is very playful and wants to play with both my kids & our cat, but she does so by rushing at them, biting their clothes (kids)/tail (cat), or nipping at legs/feet with her puppy teeth. We're working on that, too. She still has pee accidents in the house on occasion. She tries to jump up on the couch and chairs like our cat does - she's only 28ish pounds right now, but will be 110+ at full size; she will not be allowed on the furniture. We have to have eyes on her at all times when she's in the house, so I have to keep the hallway blocked off. I can't walk away from her for a second in the house, which is exhausting.

eden, correct me if i'm wrong, but don't toy poodles stay at 1 size forever?. they always stay really small?

funny story catman: I actually have a phrase lodged in my brain

I want, and then the name of the animal

I want a cat, I want a puppy, I want a horse, I want a birdy, I want a dinosaur, it annoys people!- not a day goes by where i'm not asking for a certain animal in that way

truth is though, i'm not even sure what animal i do want.. it's just lodged in my brain

Nothing wrong with posting about puppies, or kittens, or whatever.

I have an 8-month-old Pomeranian puppy who is the light of my life. She greets me with joy every morning and when I come in the front door, as if she hasn't seen me in days. She loves to lick my face and dances on her hind legs when I'm about to give her a treat. She still pees in the house on occasion, but other wise is trained to go outside. I love her!

I have a beagle named Lilly. She is a puppy in my mind because she still acts like she is even though she is 9 years old. The good thing is that when I'm depressed she lays with me in the bed and when I'm manic she gets lots of walks and playing.

My dog, Lilith, is the size of a puppy, but she never acted like a puppy. She's 2 years old now and weighs about 10 lbs...same size as one of my cats. She is a Rat Terrier, but she has long skinny legs like an Italian Greyhound. A victim of a breeder not knowing what they were doing. My mom got Lilith and her sister through the animal rescue stuff she does. Lilith's sister has congenital limb defects and can't jump/has poor muscle tone. Lilith can't jump either.
When I got her she would screech like some kinda demon at anything that bothered her (cats, paper bags, leaves that got too close, etc)...then she decided that she would screech at us if we petted her in some manner that she found incorrect. My partner and I spent a weekend passing her back and forth and purposefully petted her incorrectly until she got bored with screeching (and she saw we weren't doing anything nefarious by petting her).

I have a 2 years old standard poodle. I got her when she was a puppy. She is my world and I love her to pieces. She's very smart. She knows when I am having a bad day because she keeps her distance and if I call on her she'll be right by my side letting me pet her or just lay beside her. When I am hypomanic and up running wide open she loves that too. She'll take hikes, long walks, play, lay while I clean and stay out of my way. I could go on.. smartest dog I've ever met I love my girl.

I have two poodles, they are supposed to be miniature poodles but Peanut is closer to the toy poodle size at 10lb. Coco is a bit bigger at 14lb. They are Ok dogs, they like me well enough I guess. I don't feel like I have a bond with either of them though and I am not sure why.

Its kind of sad to say it but I might end up rehoming both of them because I cant seem to train them at all. They are a bit too wild for an old fart like me they would be better for a younger person who could handle all the rough housing and play fighting. They also poop and pee all over the house. I have been trying to house train them for months now with no luck.

I originally got them in hopes one of them would make a good service dog(s) for me but I can see now it was a mistake. I know I cant train them to be service dogs if I cant even house train them. They were supposed to make my life easier but so far they have just made it harder having to clean up after them all the time.

I think if I ever want a service dog in the future that I will just buy one already trained. After all of this though, I am not even sure if I want one anymore. I might just be a cat person and not a dog person though. I kind of feel like a bad person for feeling this way about these dogs but I wish I hadn't got them.

I have a puppy that's just over a year old. She has a mind of her own. She is the best thing for me, even though she drives me nuts. I have to run with her every day or she barks and steals things and does other bad things, so that gets me up and moving in the mornings. Nothing better than hugging her after work.
