I take 1mg of Klonopin every morning with my other meds and propranolol as needed. I told my pdoc last I saw her that the propranolol isn't helping much, so she's now prescribing me an extra 10 pills of klonopin every month to take PRN. So that would mean taking 2mg in one day, or maybe at times 2mg at once.

I'm afraid to get 'high' off of taking 2mg and then getting addicted to it (I have a history of addiction to substances). Does anyone get high off of 2mg of Klonopin? I've never taken that much (luckily, I've been good about not taking more than prescribed of my 1mg pills). How does it make you feel? Aside from maybe helping with anxiety, does it make you feel 'better' than good?

Thanks...

I have been taking it for a while and it does not even make me feel good it just reduces panic, anxiety and akathesia. How ever no matter what it does for you it is very addicting/ dependence causing and it can be very difficult to stop taking it. I doubt you will find a doctor anywhere that knows how to safely withdraw from it.
Thanks for this!

That's another concern: that the more I take, the harder it would be to get off of it if and when I wanted to do that; I've heard that getting off of benzo's is hellish. Thanks for your response.

I used to snort kpins. Sometimes 6-8 mgs. a day or I'd chew them up and drink on top of them. I wound up in the er overdosing. In detox they tried to give me kpins and I said NO! I have been off of them for ten months. I never had any withdrawals from them but they are addicting. I also developed a tolerance and had to take more and more. They eventually stopped working and well with all the alcohol thrown in who knows what was working anymore. I consider them an addictive drug like pain killers or crack. For me, they are off limits. I use seroquel to manage anxiety now.

When I first started taking Kpin it did make me a little high like a slight euphoria, but I have been taking them so long it never happens no more. As for addiction, the potential is there, for me it is not an addiction per se, more of a dependency. Like if I miss several days dosage then I will feel withdrawal effects, which are no fun. Withdrawal for me consists of racing thoughts mainly, which would make sense as Kpin is really calming in its effects.

Speaking of... I think I am flagged at every hospital I go to as someone who is an addict. For pain they always prescribe Tylenol. Next time I have one of my episodes of illeitis I wonder if that will still be the case.

I take .5mg three times a day. I don't get high from it but 2mg at once sounds like a lot.

I have never gotten high off of it. I even tried taking 2 (dependence issue, so stopped it) because one wasn't working and no high. I kinda fell of the wagon was depressed took 5 while drinking no high. So I don't really think it gives highs. Now it being addicting yea I can agree with that and for a while I was taking one everyday (btw I'm at 1 mg) for 2 weeks. Then I started getting anxious for no reason. Only reason I could think of was my body wanted more so I stopped taking them daily. Talked to my pdoc about it she said try fighting the urge, distract yourself, breathe, meditate when the anxiety isn't as bad. Did that for almost two weeks and think I'm good. I did take one after but only cause I was having an attack and had a million things in my mind.

I got myself off Klonopin by lowering my already low dose (0.5 mg) by half and tapering off by reducing the number of nights per week that I was taking it. Now I only use it for high-anxiety situations, like flying. And no, I don't get high on it, but I think that's because my dose is so tiny.

At one point I was taking Klonipin, Xanax and Ativan. I was so high, but it didn't do anything for my anxiety. I was taken off that stuff and put on Neurotin and Vistaril. I guess it works differently with people.

I have been on Klonopin for the last 6 years, and I will never be able to fully go without it. I have an anxiety disorder and that coupled with the anxiety produced by my BP is enough to keep me medicated for it.FWIW I have tried tons of other meds, Klonopin just works for me. I now am just working on getting down to the lowest dose I can. I have successfully tapered down to .5 mg at night before and I know that when my life changes I can get back there. So I have accepted that I am dependent on it, however I am not addicted to it. Yeah way back when I first started taking it it would mess me up sometimes, now it doesn't have any effect on me.

I always wondered why Klonopin is a controlled substance because I never got any sort of high from it, though it does help to calm me down. I only take .5 mg at a time twice a day. Occasionally I take 1 if I really need it. I've never taken 2 at a time.

I guess you can get high on it. But you'll eventually hit tolerance and you'll need more. I was taking Xanax as prescribed and hit tolerance and had interdose withdrawals. Good times. I almost died from tachycardia.... Resting heart rate 160 bpm. Had to wear a heart monitor. Exactly one year later and I'm still tapering off benzos using Valium.

I've taken 2 mg at night for many years. I have 1 mg PRN that I almost never use. I have asthma and when I was working I was surrounded by triggers that made me need breathing treatments and inhalers that made me more manicky so back then I used 1 mg PRN twice a day and I did use at least 1 and usually both of those doses.

I have never felt a high or anything but relaxation from it. Honestly at this point I find gabapentin works better for anxiety in general for me. I'm hoping to start what will be a very long (because it will be extremely slow--2 years possibly) taper soon. But my pdoc says the way I take it has helped with dependency as my body is used to my levels dipping down during the day and then coming up at night--there is no stable level for me ever. I do have some signs of dependency in that if I miss a dose or two I get stomach issues but that's it.

Anyway, if you are worried about addiction you might ask about gabapentin. It works on the same receptors as klonopin and like I said works really well for me for anxiety. Last winter I was IP for a very difficult med change and I couldn't have done it without the gabapentin to keep me from totally losing it. Instead it kept me as calm as possible and I made it through a lot more easily than it would have been with just klonopin and hydroxyzine.
