I exercise or try to do something productive until I get tired.

A nice warm shower, some herbal tea, do some light reading. I've been told to lay in bed with my eyes closed for hours if needed. Even if you don't sleep, laying in a dark room with your eyes closed can have recuperative qualities. Perhaps try that?

Rest your eyes at least. I know sometimes it's impossible to lay down while wide awake but if you can manage it, it might just help. Make sure you are dressed comfy.... put on your coziest jammies and stay as peaceful and relaxed as possible.

They say if you can't sleep that you should at least lay down and close your eyes. It's better than staying up and using energy that you can't afford to lose. If you're laying down and resting, your body can still recharge at least a bit.

I used to stand on my head a lot when I was hyper too....and do handstands and handstand push-up. When younger I would do handsprings over and over and over for hours sometimes. Very repetitive and with high emotion and internal energy. I don't recommend doing any of this unless you are skilled and safe. I was neither and paid the price on a few occasions.

I need to take meds for sleep. But if I'm feeling an episode come on I do guided meditations or drink some sleepy time tea, get my lavender oil out put it on a cotton ball, smell that. Light some candles and listen to my go to Sara McLaughlin.

Do you ever listen to the moth podcast? There is a great story that Darryl of Run DMC tells about how Sara McLaaughlin's music brought him out of a suicidal depression.
