In a new version of the popular game, let's do questions related to bipolar. I'll ask one, you answer it and post a new question. The next person answers yours and asks another. And so forth.

How old were you when you were diagnosed?

I was 25 years old

Question; how do you handle obsessions and compulsions like washing your hands and crying for someone?

Being just diagnosed a month ago I'm still working on finding the right combo. For right now though, I'd say Xanax.

What is one thing since you've been diagnosed that you wish you could change?

Effexor even though it does work for me.

What is the one thing you wish you could make people understand
about your illness.

Depakote...horrible drug

What's the best thing that came about because you were diagnosed?

I now understand why it was so hard to change my behaviors all my life.

What do you do when mania causes you to have more rage then you know how to handle?
Thanks for this!

I put myself in timeout, and induce a mini coma to reset my brain.

Question: What's the worst way in which bipolar has affected your life?

That that I really CAN'T "just do" whatever (make a decision, phone call, estimate things, have a sense of time etc.) because they think I "should" be able to (seeing how I'm not stupid, right?)

I regularly tough myself through things they can't conceive of, so when I say I can't, I REALLY mean it (and it's humiliating for me to admit!)

They can't seem to grasp that "being smart" doesn't overcome wiring.
(Exponentially so when overwhelmed, and immobilization sets in.)

It's exasperating beyond words!

(inserting a question to keep things going): Do you have a pet and does your pet respond to your mood changes?

I have a cat...when I go on rages he sits there and looks at me...."are you done yet?" " feed me!"

Forgot the question
How long was it till you found a cocktail that helped?

For me it was about two years or so to find a combo of meds that helps.

Are you able to take good care of your pets when depressed or manic?

Yes. My pets get cared for when I don't although sometimes I really have to fight myself to do litter pans (not so much now b/c my oldest cat is 21 and can't do stairs which results in the litter pans being in my bedroom so I get reminders).

Have you ever been hospitalized?

No, I've actually been losing weight.

Do you feel you can be completely cured from BP?

Do two BP cancel each other out? I have no idea

Does intense news cause a symbolic increase in symptoms?

I love my pdoc and trust her with my life. She's exactly who I need to treat me?

Have you tried essential oils/aromatherapy?

No, but clear, sunny skies with high temperatures (and humidity, probably) are almost lethal when depressed.

Do you ever think it's mostly society, its norms and values, that cause problems for us, those who perceive things differently, or that telling us we have a problem, causes the problem?
