I haven't even been home for 12 hours and my dad is already harassing me about the direction my life is going. I don't think he even knows what's been going on, and my mom still seems to be in denial. Why do I even bother trying? *rant over*

Our parents tend to love us and want us to enjoy life.
They are often limited in how they express their concern.
I think your dad is concerned about you?

If there's a way for you to take the lead on expressing what you need from him, or from both of your parents, maybe take this opportunity to let them know your needs? Is this possible today or during this visit?

It's tough, I know!

I just don't know where to begin with them. It's like my mom just doesn't even want to talk about it.

I might interpret someone talking to me about my "life direction" as an invite to talk (as an expression of his/her interest)?

Maybe your dad does know all you have shared with your mom?
Do you think you dad may have been trying to open an exchange with you?

You can ask him if he's interested in what you need from him/them?

It's tough to start a conversation, yet sometimes we can inquire about what another is saying to us -- and may learn they want to know more.

You know your parents best.

He's not the easiest person to talk to. I feel like he expected me to be some top notch professional like him being a top notch trauma surgeon and my mom being a top notch lawyer. I'm sure he only wants what's best for me, but on the surface it just doesn't seem to feel that way, if that makes sense. I'm not the most well spoken person, I have a very hard time conveying my feelings and emotions to people because of the fear of being judged and criticized.

Could you take a walk when you need to let go of some steam?
OR better yet ask your dad to go with you on the walk, maybe being alone with him you could have that conversation better.
just a thought.
You have benzos to take?

Considering I had to fly here to visit them I really had no other option but to bring all my meds with me unless I really just wanted to be miserable. Right now he's in the tv room reading or something and I'm just hanging out in the guest room trying to keep myself from having a meltdown. I asked my mom if she needed help with anything and she refused. I should have just stayed back in Chicago and hung out with my BFF and her family as I've done in years past.

I'm visiting my folks who live in the Pittsburgh area. It's cold and miserable here.

Is there anything you can read? That would distract you for a while. I'm distracting myself right now with the internet on my phone.

I'm currently going between the internet and reading. It's funny because up until I got sick I was never much of a reader, but now I'm starting to enjoy it a bit more. I'm really only reading books that pertain to BP and MI in general trying to learn as much as I can in hopes of improving myself.
