I have been so depressed lately. Spent thanksgiving alone because my brother said I'm all drama and put others on edge. I told him to go to hell. And I'm in school to complete my masters and my student teaching is suffering. I was told I domt have drive or passion although I have been working towards my teaching career for 20 yrs. I'm with a man of two years that I'll prob never marry. I considered taking my life yesterday and yoday. I can't even get out of bed to see my therapist. I like her as a person but she's not helping ke. I really want to die. I ask God what's my purpose in this life.

Hi Divagirl10. Welcome to Psych Central. I am sorry you are so deeply depressed. The feelings you describe are all symptomatic of depression. So in response to your statement you cannot get out of bed, I hear you. I am struggling with depression as winter starts to roll in.

We discussed this in Depression Chat (Thursday PM at 9PM EST) a few weeks back. It is like first aid
How to Get Out of Bed When You?re Depressed | World of Psychology

It is to stop the "bleeding" so to speak. I know it will not solve everything.

If you are getting medication, you may want to talk to your prescriber and tell them your meds are not working to keep you out of depression. If you are not on meds please consider this

Depression Treatment: Psychotherapy, Medication or Both? | Psych Central

I find eating protein every 3-4 hours helps me stay more grounded and stable. I also like to walk, exercise and or do yoga. Depression is not so much about sadness as lack of energy. By doing things however small I feel a little better. A warm shower or bath helps me enormously.

"What is my purpose in this life" is the question I have asked for 50+ years. It is one that I keep getting clues about. Keep asking that question. It is a good one. It keeps us from getting stuck in a rut.

6 Clues for Finding Your Purpose and Passion | Psych Central

Hope you find a way to start getting out of bed, one step at a time.

If you want to know God's purpose for your life, the best person to ask is God, not your therapist. Are you plugged into a church or anything?

Hello Divagirl10: I'm sorry you are having such a difficult time. Hopefully coming here to PC can be of some comfort & support. You know... suicidal thinking is nothing to try to ignore. So if you continue to struggle with thoughts of wanting to end your life, it is important to reach out, in real life, for the help you need. I know you wrote that you see a therapist whom you like as a person but whom you wrote is not helping you. It may be that you need to try seeing someone else. Not every therapist works well with every client. But also, if you continue to struggle, you may want to consider the possibility of trying some psych med's at least on a temporary basis.

Anyway, since this is your firsts post here on PC... welcome to PsychCentral… from the Skeezyks! I hope you find the time you spend here to be of benefit.

PsychCentral is a great place to get information as well as support for mental health issues. There are many knowledgeable & caring members here. The more you post, & reply to other members’ posts, the more a part of the community you will become. Plus there are social groups you can join & chat rooms where you’ll be able to connect with other PC members in real time (once your first 5 posts have been reviewed & approved.) Lots of great stuff! So please keep posting!
