I am about 10 days short of my klonpin refill and yes I did this myself and am just trying to wrap my head around how to deal without my anxiety medication. I know its going to be rough but I don't want my pdoc to know that I did this cause he'll take it away. Fortunately my appointment is AFTER my refill date. He always asks to bring in all my six psych meds for eval. I am fine on the rest of my meds. I have no one to blame but myself and just needed to get this out and write about it so I could see what an idiot I am.

I did the same this month...I'll be a few days short & worry about running out. If you still have some left, ration them out. Another possibility is getting a pill cutter to half the dose you have left. It may not fully relieve your anxiety symptoms, but you'll have at least something to take the edge off.

Thanks for this!

Thanks I do have a pill splitter but that will leave me still 5 days shy of a refill. I guess I can do it I've gone a week without Xanax but had to stay inside my apartment and sleep it off and deal with the tremors (those suck). Thanks for your reply!

Was your anxiety extra bad and so you took more? If this is the case I see no reason why you can't tell your doctor what happened. They shouldn't punish you for being sick and needing relief. Unless you have made some deal to only take a certain amount but even then....I'm sure you didn't take the pills for fun right? (((Hugs)))

They're pretty strict about prescribing benzodiazapines, Elsa...As you probably know. My pdoc is VERY strict about his policy because benzos are tightly regulated. It's worth a chance, though...

I seriously do this to myself just about every month. And it's not until I run out that I get horrific attacks. I tell myself every month that I'll be good but I still fail. I get my refill on Friday and I may give it to my bf to hold on to. Do you maybe have someone like that? Someone you can trust?? I've had to do this before when I was quitting opiates. He had to hid my suboxone from me and I tore apart the house, tried to bribe him, then turned to anger and threatened him. But I got through it.

I think in the future, maybe tell your doctor in advance if you require more?

Or is this an addiction issue? I'm not familiar with that and realize it's a bit different.

Either way I'm so sorry you are in this situation. I would personally tell my doctor and then promise that if I found myself needing more than prescribed in the future, I would promise to talk to him first about it. (((Hugs)))

If it were me, I wouldn't volunteer to my doc that I'd been using more than prescribed. I'd rather describe to him how I felt and why I thought I'd need a higher dose. By definition it's abuse when you're taking more than prescribed.

I second this. If you are 10 pills short you took extra every third day right? That's a lot

They're 10 days short after 20 days. That's a double dose (or doses) every other day, on average.

Don't get me wrong, I'm not passing judgement here. I just think you should talk to your doc if you feel the current regimen isn't cutting it. There may be alternatives to just upping the Klonopin, or maybe more Klonopin is your answer. Self-medicating is seldom a good idea - I did it for years and it led to nothing but trouble.

Ten days is a long time to go without if you have been consistently taking a dose, especially if it's a higher dose than prescribed. Benzo withdrawal can cause seizures. I ration mine, and abuse it on occasion, but am careful not to go over four or five days without taking it or I will be climbing the wall.
If I were you, I would white knuckle it for as long as I can and if you can't make it you will have to fess up to your doctor, and you could be flagged as a substance abuser; but the alternative could be worse.
Do you have any left? If you do just cut them up and take just a little each day until your refill. If that's the case you're golden, but expect to be uncomfortable.
