so i saw my T today and we talked a lot about how i have been feeling recently and DBT and the possibility of needing to go to the hospital. T asked if i thought i needed to go to the hospital i said i didnt know but in the end we both agreed that there wasnt much the hospital could do other than give me meds to sleep and i am already sleeping too much anyway. there are not groups or therapy at the hospital where i live so it is basically just holding cells so stop you from harming yourself but no actually therapy. so in the end we agreed to try and avoid that so that i can keep doing DBT as that is more helpful. i still dont know if i can commit to doing DBT as in i dont know if i can keep myself alive long enough but i am trying. tomorrow i will see my new mental health worker so we will see what they say.

Why would the hospital only give sleep meds? Any hospital I've been to has focused on psych med adjustments.

I second this. I can't see why a hospital would only give you sleep meds, much less if you don't need them. They would try to stabilize you, either by keeping you in the ER for a while and prescribing psych medications and talking to you, or admitting you to stabilize you on a change of psych meds. Many hospitals (most?) have groups you can attend and you would meet with a pdoc daily; it could prove to be just what you need right now. I don't think DBT is designed for crises, but the ER is. You could use it as a bridge between getting over this crisis with the help of the hospital's expertise and then going on to doing the DBT for short and long-term care to learn skills. Please go, you sound like you're in a very bad and precarious place right now.

It's kinda like you don't want help. Please go to the hospital. They should put you on meds to stabilize you.

The thing about dbt is that it won't really help with a severe crisis. At least it never has for me. the skills are very useful for day to day life but not when you're severely suicidal. I know you said your hospital doesn't help though. Have you been able to get in to see your pdoc? Can you go to another hospital in the area? You need your meds adjusted.

My Pdoc has called me and made adjustments over the phone. Is this a possibility for you given your situation?

a lot of hospitals aren't that great. I've been in 2 different ones. Both were supposed to be awesome, but I wasn't "worth their time," so...yeah.

Anyway, I hope things work out for you. I understand your situation, to some extent.

Why did the hospital send you home? What did your worker say about it?
