Strangely enough it does absolutely nothing to me except make me slightly hungry and then one day it sent me into a manic episode. That was my first and only episode and have stopped smoking since then and have been stable ever since (about 8 months). If it was the weed that caused the episode does that mean that I am not a true bipolar? I do want to try smoking again since I could really use the mood/energy boost but I am scared it will make me go manic again. Does weed make any of you manic or is it just me?

I have a prescription for cannabis. The warning I got from the doctor that gave it to me was not to take anything high in THC (use cbd or a 50/50) because it can cause psychosis. That said I don't exactly take that advice. I have indica, sativa, dried product, edibles and oil. Nothing causes me to go manic. But everyone is different and reacts differently.

It makes me anxious, paranoid, and my heart beats a million times a minute. No thanks

Its so interesting how we can have different reactions! CBD oil replaced benzos for me. 1:1 replaced sleeping pills. I feel sooooo much better on cannabis.

I have tried pot 3 times in my life. Extreme paranoia and psychosis every time. And I hardly had any, about half a drag. I wish I could take it for sleep, but I just can't handle it.

I don't live in a cannabis state, but I have had better experiences with medical cannabis than the majority of prescription drugs prescribed to me. I did just learn that CBD oil is available near me....for now. Glad you posted your successes. I think I'll try CBD oil. I respond well to both Sativa & Indica.

I have a medical card as well..which the only reason I like this card is because of the stigma with marij...I am very much a rule follower...so having the license...makes it legal for me to have it...but not at the Federal level...which makes no ****ing sense to me.

I go to the dispensery at least 4 times a week...mostly for my son...I get a pre rolled joint there 2x a week..not knowing what it is going to do for me...sometimes I get anxious..sometimes I get relaxed.

Sometimes the same strain does different things to me on different days.

I never hear of weed causing psychosis..I think that is quite the stretch.
I think the OPs friend has much more going on than a little bit of weed impacting him.

My ex bf smoked pot daily his whole life. He’s been homeless chronically. He now goes off on paranoid rants. I wonder if the pot caused it. Who knows what’s in it? Paraquat?

I've heard of this before in online forums and from a few friends who suffer from Bipolar Disorder, but I've heard the transverse, in that it's one of the only things that really offers them relief. I'm certain it's really more of an individual thing, but if you're worried about the two things I assume you are (that is that they shouldn't be smoking weed and having to be the person who brings that up), maybe you could offer them CBD as an alternative. I've actually read a lot of positive research from using it as a treatment for bipolar disorder and because THC, the active psychoactive compound in marijuana, is either in negligible doses or absent entirely, and should, theoretically, absolve the issue of the episodes being triggered. Just trying to offer some middle-ground help.

I liked smoking far too much. I think if I'd continued smoking I'd be high a good part of the time...which isn't coonstructive for me. That stated, I feel it should be legalized & each person should have the right to decide for themselves. I guess some folks use it for BP, but I think its effectiveness would depend on the individual. For some, I think it might create more problems than it solves.

I don't have issues with smoking. I smoke maybe once a week, usually if my pain level gets too high and I can't take it anymore. I used to be a heavier smoker and I didn't have any issues with it. Since I lost my job in 2015 I slowed down cause we just didn't have the money since my husband would smoke all the time. I got used to just smoking when in too much pain. tbh I'd rather be alert and awake so I could do things, but that's just me.

I recently went back to using MJ (I vape it) after a couple of years away from it. What I've discovered is when I'm high, it's the only time my brain is quiet. My thoughts race whether I'm manic, depressed, or stable; weed makes that all go away and I feel relaxed. I like that effect.

No one has ever died from a marijuana dose. From Politifact: "U.S. Drug Enforcement Administration drug sheet for marijuana reports that no deaths from marijuana overdose have ever been recorded,"

Is it true that marijuana hasn't caused any deaths, while prescription drugs have caused 100,000? | PolitiFact

Do any of you here think that I will have problems finding pills of CBD in a state that approves of recreational MJ? What are my other options? I am not interested in getting high.

I'm in canada, but CBD is easy to access here. Just as easy as the THC stuff. I use it for anxiety instead of benzos.

Thank you. I am thinking of going to the nearest city in California that has businesses which sell CBD, hopefully in pill form. I will purchase what I can for California has daily purchase limits. If this works for me, I will get a medical marijuana card in my state and purchase from legal dispensaries here.

As many other people have mentioned marijuana affects everyone (bipolar or not) differently. For me it makes me anxious and sad. For my best friend it relaxes her and relieves her of anxiety. For another friend it's just a fun way to relax. For a third friend it does make them psychotic so they have to stay away from it.

In terms of your situation, I'd say leave it up to your friend and try to stay out of it, unless you notice a pattern between psychotic episodes and smoking. Then maybe bring it up gently, asking if your friend thinks they're connected or not.

I hate to tell you but pot really affects everyone differently it could help it could hurt. Not the best answer but it is the answer. Personally it helps me significantly, I'd say try it but it would be completely bias. It's fairly low risk for addiction.

While I smoke mostly for fun, with no negative side effects, it also calms me down sometimes when I’m manic. Though I don’t usually have it on me but I use it when I do.
