As I sit here drinking my sorrows away I find myself sad and angry. My last grandparent just passed away about an hour ago and I can't stop crying. I'm angry because I couldn't be there. I haven't seen her in a few years. I'm the oldest grandchild and feel a responsibility to be there. My heart hurts

I really hate that you just lost a loved one and can not be there. I'm sure your family knows that if you could you would be with them. Everyone is entitled there on way to deal with grief. Be careful drinking if your taking meds. I will definitely keep you in my prayers. I only have one grandmother in my life and living so I understand your point.

I know drinking isn't a good idea, but it seems to be the only thing to numb the pain right now

I'm sorry. I felt similarly when my grandmother passed. She lived far away, but we were glad we got to see her a few years earlier. I found out when my dad called me at work. I went into the bathroom and cried. Be kind to yourself.

It's hard because we live in different states, so I completely understand what you mean.

I'm sorry to hear this. I know how hard it is not to be there. My dad passed away and I couldn't be there because my flight was cancelled because a huge storm settled on the east coast and everything going through Atlanta was at a standstill, there was no way to get through to get to FL. I was heartbroken. I'm the oldest child so I can identify with you, there, too. I was the only one of my siblings not to make it. I felt awful and I was the closest with my Dad. I was so angry with myself. I felt like a jerk.

Treat yourself gently and try to give yourself a break because it's not your fault that you can't be there. I know it hurts and that's going to take time. Give yourself that time without feeling guilty. Your family is thinking of you, just as you are thinking of them. Take care of yourself. I'm so sorry about your grandparent.
