got the statement from the insurance co today ... now they are paying it all ... but he charged them a $400 and a $600 dollar charge for the 20 min office visit .... sure wish I was a pdoc ... I am going to give them till monday to explain themselves ... and if I am not happy I going to the medical lic'ing board ... " can you say fraud" ... I am thinking of posting his full name on here ... any opinions ... can we say Tigger is Pi**ed ... now I know why insurance is so expensive ... |

So just to clarify, you don't have to pay any of these fees, but you are upset that the pdoc is making so much? I don't understand.

A thou for a 20 minute office visit! Holy cow! That's a bit steep even for a new patient which you're not. I'd question 2 charges too.

My pdoc charges $180 for 20 minutes, but I only have a $20 copay. So from my experience, $1000 per visit seems extremely high. Even my intake session, which was the most expensive session of all, cost me $250/hr when I had a deductible.
I hope you do get a real answer because I agree that $1000 for a 20-minute session is EXTREMELY suspicious. Something isn't right, especially with two separate charges. Let us know what your pdoc's "answer" is. I'm sorry you have to deal with this bullsh_t. ![]() |

This seems way too high! For my pdoc I pay out of pocket and it is only $150. Yes, I know different parts of the country charge different amounts, still $1000?

Any doctor can charge a ridiculous amount but the insurance company will only "allow" a certain amout , Period .
Example I worked for a GP years ago ... His office visit for a new patient was 140.00 .. Most all insurance plans only allowed 89.00 so if a patient had medicare they only pay 20% of the ALLOWABLE charge. The same way works with people who have copays. You have to also understand the amount of money a doctor makes might seem like alot .. But the below are things to consider They have Malpractice insurance to pay. They pay there staff They pay rent for the office and all the utilities They have to pay for supplies for the office Im just saying that Doctors do not "make" the money they charge.

He might not even know what you are being billed. The Treatment Center would be doing the billing since he is now part of the group.

It's worth looking into.
I also think it's important to clear this up in order to clear up how you feel about your pdoc. It's difficult to entrust our care to someone we view as committing a "fraud." ![]() WC |

Now is the $400 and $600 what he billed or what the insurance actually paid? Like Christina said, all insurance companies have negotiated rated with providers. They can bill as much as they want, but they don't actually get paid that, and they can't bill the patient for the remainder. In an essence, what they bill out doesn't actually matter.

Having relatives with MD's; I can assure you, pdoc's have some of the lowest take home pays of any specialty. Career folks in school will counsel against going into psychiatry for specifically that reason.

If you're going to a medical center of any sort, there will be a few the doctor charges and a fee the treatment center charges. It's like going to the hospital. There's a few for the doc's services and a few the hospital charges.
But if your insurance company actually paid that amount, it's nuts! Regardless, you are right that things like that are what drive up the cost of healthcare and insurance premiums. That, and Latuda costing $33/pill. I still can't get over that one.

No doubt. The pharmaceutical company has to be cleaning up on that one. I'm waiting for a generic, while at the same time worrying the generic won't work as well.

If I remember correctly, Latuda should be generic in 2018. ETA: I just checked, and it is 2018. I'm not sure what month, but my guess is the market will be flooded with competitors who want to get a piece of that pie. Might be a year or less.
