Hi Everyone!
I'm not really a frequent poster as I get so caught up in everyones issues that it stresses me out - but you all seem like such a warm & wonderful community & I hope to try & be around more often!

So I was hoping that someone could help me out here. First of all I'd like to make clear that I'm 100% clear on all of the textbook terms, criteria any everything related to bipolar. But what I can't figure out is what a mixed episode "looks like". When my psychiatrist points out that I'm in a mixed episode I don't understand how she can tell.

Does a mixed episode present itself similarly to ultra-rapid cycling? Or is it where one thought could literally be "I love life & want to experience everything but then already be thinking "but I want to die". I just don't get it & when I'm "in" it I don't realize what is going on.

Could someone please help me out. I'm extremely confused.

Thanks a lot Confused about Mixed Episodes.

a mixed episode is a combination of manic episode and major depressive episode. I frequently get mixed episodes often. My experience with mixed episodes I feel horrible, I feel depressed, irratable and get easily angry really fast over little things, and decreased need for sleep and I also get very bored and cant concentrate or keep my attention on one thing for awhile.

I think those are good thoughts and places to research it is different for everyone...generally some manic and some depressive...I have them plus rapid cycling...you never know what you are going to get...I'll try to write more later...

My last three or so visits to my pdoc my dx has been mixed--moderate. For me it is not sleeping, racing thoughts, being agitated, getting emotional & crying easily...both manic & depressed at the same time. I'm doing the spending sprees, yet isolating myself; loads of energy, but sometimes think of ways to hurt myself. Seeing pdoc frequently (once a week) & getting meds adjusted so I should be stable soon (I hope).--Suzy
