Do you always have an underlying feeling of depression? I switched meds recently and don't feel the helplessness and hopelessness I used to feel. But still feel apathetic...no motivation to do anything...want to sleep all the time...empty...lonely.

I'm wondering if I'll always have an underlying feeling of depression. I feel like it's something that meds can't solve. I want to tell my therapist and pdoc that I feel good, and I'm unable to do that.

I feel the same way most days

How recently did you make the switch? Did you feel the same before switching medications?

I switched meds about a month and a half ago. I felt like this then, too.

hi. in my limited, personal experience, ssri drugs, ssnri drugs, too much tranquilizer/antipsychotic, and too much mood-stabilizer can lower my mood, sometimes to the point of bona fide depression. oh, and Klonopin...watch out for that bad boy. Long term use can cause or exacerbate depression, more often than other benzodiazepines.

I hope things get better for you.

I understand, just wanted to clarify. I'm no doctor but personally, I've always had my ups and downs. Of course I never want to get out of bed but that has been a life long condition that will probably be a chronic one

I wish I had some advice. I've been told to get up and get more active but that's insanely difficult to do when everything in you just wants to rest.

If it's not something you've talked about with your docs just be sure to let them know. They may have some other therapies besides medications to help. Stay well.

I fall in and out of severe depressions quickly but in between I don't feel like I have low level depression. I have no motivation or desire to move from my recliner at any time. I have to really push myself to accomplish anything.

It's the new medication then. What are you taking now? And please, TELL your doctor about it, your health is extremely important, so don't feel bad to tell them - a million times, if necessary - until you feel good and motivated.
Best wishes

I'm taking fluoxetine and buproprion. I've heard a lot of people take that combination.

I feel mildly depressed most of the year, except for early Spring when i'm hypomanic. I feel like you right now: empty, lonely, exhausted, wanting to rest almost all day. I'm currently having trouble even taking a shower. If i didn't have a dog i'd stay in all day.

I've had tougher times than this tho in the past and i try and be grateful for the good things i have now: a comfortable home, a steady, decent income, an adorable dog.

The last time i tried an anti-depressant it made me hypomanic so i don't dare do that. I just tough it out.

Thanks for posting. I'm not happy that you feel the same, ImagineThat, but i do find it comforting that i'm not the only one.

I know my moods will vary depending on what med I'm on. Lamictal didn't do anything, and with Depakote I was always a little low. I'm on Latuda now and I feel pretty mellow, but I can still do creative stuff. I'm not as down but I'm not near hypomanic either. It's kind of nice.
