So used to chew tobacco regularly, I quit at the request of my wife for health reasons and obviously because it's disgusting. I I quit successfully cold turkey and didn't dip for about 6 months. I then noticed as I would cycle from hypomania to depression the craving to dip would cycle with mood. Needless to say I know when I'm going to go into a hypomanic phase when I start to really crave it (I now always dip when hypomanic.) But when I'm depressed I don't really crave it and if I put one in I almost get sick. Anyone else get random cravings?

I'm prone to addiction and have kicked both alcohol and cigarettes. I still get *seemingly random* cravings for both from time to time. It sounds like there's a strong association with hypomania and dipping, so it's probably not totally random - your body has probably learned that hypomania means it's time to dip, so the cravings kick in stronger. That was the hardest part for me quitting my vices, breaking the associations in my every day life that triggered an urge to use.

I get the urge to drink a lot more frequently in hypomania. As for tobacco, I'm not sure because I haven't successfully quit. I know that when depression hits I crave smoking more, but definitely when mixed too. And for me it's a passive suicidal gesture; I know smoking has the potential to kill me and that's what I want.

Want to drink when mixed or sinking into the depression. At those times I just don't care that its not good for me. The only other thing that is like a craving for me and that is smells. (weird I know) but this is the opposite its when I'm hypo/manic I crave city smells, subway train, diesel busses, underground parking, airport/jet fuel, inhaling those smells is totally drug like in those moments I can just stand there sniffing

I curtailed my drinking and smoking when I found out my liver was having issues. I'm now using a vape as stress relief sometimes. I don't have nicotine in my mix (my husband will mix juice from scratch). It helps sometimes.
