When traveling by commercial airline, is it better to put one's medications in the carry-on bag or in the checked luggage? What have you done? What was your experience with inspections?

Thanks

I put it in the checked luggage, just because I didn't need them in the carry-on and it went fine.

Carry-on please! If your checked luggage gets lost, you're screwed! So you're legally allowed to have Rx's with you on board for that reason.

I put all of my meds in a clear, plastic baggie -- one of those 1 quart freezer bags. I was able to squeeze 8 bottles in there. And I just left the entire plastic baggie in my carry-on without taking it out. They didn't care.

I don't think the plastic baggie itself is necessary, but I do it for convenience sake, both for me and the TSA.

BTW, I've done this traveling internationally through all sorts of countries and I was fine too. Munich, London, Paris, Vienna, Prague, etc etc.

Always carry them with you in their original containers. Checked luggage can get lost end and unscrupulous searchers can take em. I put my vitamins and other OTC in the check in cause they are easy to replace, but never RX, they travel with me at all times.

Thanks, all.

It looks like I'll go with the carry-on, to be safe. I like the idea of the clear plastic bag, Blue.

Hi Vertigo,

How are you?

I just carried them in my handbag. And I had a bunch. Went right through security with no problems. I think I've done that six times. Maybe more. My bag just went through the X-ray machine like usual. No problem and no search.

I won't check them in with luggable as they could get lost. Just keep the meds in the original bottles and bring them on a plane in a carry-on bag.

Have a safe trip.

I'm a little anxious about the trips I'll be taking in the next month, but in general doing relatively well.

I've got a bunch of meds, too. I take 5 different meds, dextroamphetamine among them. That's the one I'm worried about.

To be honest, I don't want to go on the flight. It's a lot of stress for me. I have no desire to visit Hawaii, but my sister-in-law wants to treat us all to a family holiday there. We're all (all my in-laws) going to be staying in the same house. I hope I don't suffer an episode while in the same house with them. I'm going to be stretching the time between my regular ECT treatments, which is never good. Whenever we've tried to go longer than 3 weeks, I crash. On this trip I will pass the 3 week point from my last ECT.

Don't worry about flying with meds, everyone does it. Just make sure to have them in the original containers and put them in your carry-on. Never ever put meds in checked luggage.

I had my medication in my carry on luggage. Rather keep it by my person and not worry about the airline losing it while the flight is in transit.

I've traveled with my meds before. I just put them in my carry on bag. No problems.

I am sorry that you have the extra worry from your crashing before when you go beyond your ect treatments. Do you have extra anti anxiety meds to bring/take if you need them. Could you ask your pdoc for something to take in emergency. Mine gave me zyprexa if I needed it. I also asked her for a list of my meds in case I needed it.
Have some fun in Hawaii !!!Try the king bread french toast. It is to die for!

Carry on, but I buck the trend on bottles if I am only going for a few days. I carry a 7 day pill minder. Once I get where I am going I don't want to leave it in the room but I don't want to carry around a pharmacy with me either.

All my prescriptions come from a national chain and I have an app on my phone so I could show a nosy security officer that they are mine. I have never heard of anyone having to do this though. It would be different if you had a sandwich bag full of hydrocodone.

I do have a PRN for anxiety. I keep it in a different location than my regular meds, so I didn't think about it. That makes 6 bottles to pack.

I'll remember the king bread French toast. Thanks for the recommendation.

I put them in my carry-on in case my checked baggage gets lost. I've never had any trouble with the TSA vis a vis my meds.
Thanks for this!

I fly about once a month. I bring my pills carry on in my pill case, not in original bottles. Not one problem yet.
Thanks for this!

Hmmmm, more to think about, and it's so hard to make decisions. Thanks, nonetheless.
