Has anyone had this? I started the med last week and was taken off on Zyprexa. Since the first night I have terrible dreams and they seem so real, even long long after I wake up. I know they aren't real but I process them as if they were. I feel like I communicated with people in my dreams. Some have been very ugly and almost violent. Last night I was dead in one of them and had a card in my hand with my name on it the type you get at a funeral home when someone passes. I wake up legitimately scared at least a couple times a night. Like I said I know they can't be real, dreams aren't real, but the things that happen seem 100% real even after I'm awake all day.

In regards to how it's managing my symptoms, I do think since dose increased again a few days ago that I'm cycling less or less intense.

Maybe this will go away but given it's already been a week and it's as or more intense each night, I don't know.

Does anyone have experience with this and how they handled it? I am still sleeping but it's not restful.

I notice if I take a daytime nap the dreams are just as intense so it's not from my evening dose.

I'm taking 300XR at night now and doctor told me I could go to 350-400 after pausing at 300 for a week or two. I also take 75 IR just before I go to bed.

If I need to come off of it it scares me because I've already been on several others and did not have much long-term luck with stopping cycling or even making it tolerable. I'm no longer able to hold a job and I just want to feel normal again.

Any experience with this? Thanks,
Hugs from:

I too have the dreams. During a few periods the dreams are more vivid than consciousness. I handle them by knowing what they are "going in"....prepare yourself for the ride I guess.

Ugh, I feel for you. Bad dreams are so upsetting and disabling. I didn't think that Seroquel caused my bad dreams; I thought it was Cymbalta causing them. But maybe it is the Seroquel.

I was experiencing nightmares when I first started Seroquel. Eventually, it became less and less, but I get weird sensations at night or early in the morning, such as paralysis in my arm or legs/my feet falling asleep. It freaks me out, but at least I don't have many nightmares anymore. Hopefully for you, it will go away or become less and less, as it did for me. Every now and then, I hear people chatting before I fall asleep on Seroquel, but that also mostly went away (every now and then it comes back). The higher the dose though, the worse the side effects will be, which is why now I'm on a moderate dose.

I think the benefits outweigh the bad effects for me, given that it's the only thing that gets me sleeping and brings down my manic states. I guess it's a matter of giving it time and deciding if it's worth staying on for the helpful aspects? (((hugs)))

Yes. Seroquel gave me horrific nightmares. I have always had bad dreams but with the Seroquel they're really awful. Maybe they go away with time?

I've been on Seroquel for a little over six years. I'm down to 600 mg/night.

It is the only drug that has given me peace during the day and rest at night.

Please give it some time. Perhaps talk to your doc about what could help you get some rest.

There is a drug that specifically helps with nightmares. My doc said that they use it to help with the very vivid dreams that can make you anxious to go to sleep. I do not know what it is called.

Between my Seroquel and 30mg of Restoril I don't usually remember many distinct details of my nightmares. My spouse and dog do and I've startled them more than a few times yelling. It's worse when I've been feeling rough or dealing with stress.

I don't know if it's true, but, I think my frustration with not being able to get rest with the rxs some how changed the attitude I had in some nightmares I remember from running to being pissed off and hostile to whatever terrible thing was showing that night.

I don't know if intensifies your dreams, but, the nightmares did not go away or decrease in intensity. My doc said it's usually agitated by stress which I found to be true for me.
