I am about to taper off of one antipsychotic on to another. I will be on two antipschotic's for a few months. How many people out there are on two antipsychotics? Have you had more side effects than when you took one?

I take both Latuda and haldol and my only side effects are getting hot really quick, taking long time to cool off and being thirsty.

I took Abilify and Latuda for while, and I was doing well. Unfortunately, I started to develop some involuntary tongue movements and so dropped the Latuda. I am still showing some symptoms and want to drop from 20mg of Abilify to 10mg. Will discuss this with my psychiatrist on Tuesday. Good luck.

I've been on two antipsychotics (signature) for a long time. No bad side effects other than not having the drive I once had, but I don't tend to suffer too much from meds in general (very, very lucky).

I've been on 2 AP's a couple times and it didn't work out for me. First time I ended up with raging hives and vomiting so discontinued both immediately and the following time I couldn't stop kicking my legs so stopped the newest of the AP's right away which stopped the problem. I hope this med adjustment does the trick. Good luck and best wishes.

Watch your weight. The two in tandem made my appetite go through the roof...which was probably the primary cause of my weight gain; I don't know, however, how much was due to the meds themselves. I put on almost 70 pounds.

I was on two APs for a long time. but my new pdoc feels that fewer meds are better than more unless absolutely needed. I'm on 20mg of Abilify. It sounds like you're headed in the right direction, Guiness (but I'm no doctor).
Thanks for this!

Lots of people agree on 2 APs

It all depends on individuals.

I hope your experience is good.

I've been on two APs for years, never had any problems except for some weight gain when I first started Zyprexa. Since you're going off Zyprexa you may lose a little weight.

Hello
My husband was on 15mg olanzapine and is on 10mg abilify now. His doctor did not do a slow taper at all. He dropped the olanzapine to 7.5 and the stopped it completely in one week. He did not have side effects surprisingly rl after reading all the horror stories online. I was worried that some of the psychosis symptoms would return and so far nothing. In fact he has insight into his prior episode. I guess each person is different
Why do you have to stop Zyprexa if you don't mind me asking. My husband gained a lot of weight very quickly
Thanks for this!

I don't want to I love it. But I am an insulin dependent diabetic. My fasting blood sugars are way to high my a1c is up to a 9. I am terrified to stop the zyprexa because it does me so much good. the plan is to lower it 5mg a month. .I am at 20mg now.

Right now I am IP and on 2 - 4 AP's on any given day. They don't seem to interact but do have to take Benzotropine to deal with the restless legs caused by Seroquel and Haldol.

I'm on two AP's for depression. So far, no negative effects. Zyprexa is good. I couldn't handle the weight gain aspect of it. I hope the tapering off process goes smoothly for you. Best wishes.
Thanks for this!

I'm on Latuda full-time and a small dose of Seroquel PRN for sleep. No noticeable increase in side effects of either.

I'm speaking only observationally not from personal experience, but after my husband's psychosis seemed to stabilize w the olanzapine, he began suffering from the side effects w fatty liver and excessive weight gain. This was when the dr recommended abilify and wellbutrin combo. He explained that theyre supposed to work well in combination. Hopefully you'll also find success with the med change

Arghh! I was taken off of Olanzapine (Zyprexa) 14 weeks ago! I was on it 20mg daily for 4 years. NO tapering off at all!!! Two antipsychotic's I don't know what my psychiatrist was thinking! Yes I'm diabetic but even still surely it should have been done slowly!? Now showing symptoms of Bipolar II/cyclothymia!
Thanks for this!

I am at 20mg also. My pdoc says withdrawls from it are hell. so he wants to go down 5 mg a month.
