The job I just got hired at decided to go with someone else cause I asked to start a little later being the 4th to get my symptoms under control. I've been having troubles sleeping and my pdoc decided to up my lithium and I thought I'd give it about a week to work but when I told them yesterday they called me today saying they can't go though with the hiring process.. I really could use some encouragement I feel like my mental health is ruining everything!

I'm so sorry!!! Did you tell them it was because of a med change or MI? If so that's discrimination. Although I don't know if you'd have a legal leg to stand on. But if not, I guess they just thought maybe you wouldn't be reliable. I'm really, really sorry. I lost a job due to MI before. It was because I had to take time off to attend a PHP program. It was only a summer job so no fmla or anything.

You'll find something else! Focus on getting stable for now.

I just told them for medical reasons and that's only cause i wanted to be at least high functioning for them. I should of said screw it and went in feeling like I was. But yeah this sleeping issue just cost me my first job. If I could cry I would but honestly I can't feel much but I am bummed about this one not gonna lie. Should I start applying to other jobs right away?

Indeed but hey, I don't think you'd want to work in a company where they treat employees like dirt when they feel that they can't be useful, right?

Find another, it'll be alright :-)

I guess they thought it was a bad sign then and didn't want to take the chance hiring someone with a medical issue. Or maybe they just needed someone to start immediately. I don't know. I'm sorry this happened to you. I would try to get the sleeping issue under control before you apply anywhere else, unless you think you can deal with it and work at the same time.

I'm so sorry this happened to you. It's their loss. Yes, I think you should pick yourself up, shake the dust off and apply for other jobs. Things tend to work out. I stuck it out at a job for 6 years where I was harassed and bullied so much I finally resigned with nothing on the horizon and my mental health deteriorating. Eight days later I had a better paying job with a better title, better conditions and better benefits. I know you must be terribly disappointed but hang in there. Sending big hugs.
Thanks for this!

This statement sums it up perfectly. I do want to warn however that many st companies will not hire someone with medical issues which pull them away from work if they know in advance a person has them. It's considered a liability. Imagine if everyone you hired had issues, nothing or very little would get done and this is not good for profits. I believe that if you can wait until you are more well, you'd be best to do so before trying to gain employment. (((Hugs)))

This job was not meant to be and the indications are that they wouldn't have looked after you if you had started with them!

Onwards! Yes apply for other jobs. Good luck!

I agree with Pegasus and our other friends commenting here.

It's terrible this happens. You were trying to pull things together before starting the position. There's a position out there for you

I am so sorry that this has happened. Like others, I think it's good to know that the employer was so stringent.

If I were you, I would look for another job only when you're feeling well enough to work.

So sorry! That's such a bad feeling. I agree that this job is probably not meant to be, and you will find something better for you, when you are ready. Take care of yourself.
Thanks for this!

Oh man. Many people here, including myself can relate. I've been tossed for my "mood swings" and panic attacks. After losing every job after 2 months I decided to go for SSI. We're not the first and surely not the last and it friggin hurts. Any kind of rejection is a shock and it even triggered a depressive episode for me. I haven't worked in a year and a half so I took that time to ride out my emotions and work on getting stable. You can turn this into a positive! Screw them... you're mental health comes first!

Thanks guys I am becoming soooo numb both mentally and emotionally the thought of being "normal" feels like a distant memory. I personally hate meds but now I feel like they are the only possible thing that can at least get me to sleep I honestly don't know why I can't even get to sleep.

Meds were the reason I got stable. I guarantee that if I went a few days without then I'd be in IP. Even when stable you still probably need a maintenance med. lamictal did wonders for me!
