I have been having problems with my back for a while. I saw a specialist today and I might be looking at spinal surgery. He prescribed me 10mg of flexerel and 10mg percocets. Does anyone else take pain medication with all of their psych meds? How does it work out for you? I know benzo's should not be mixed with opiates. Does your AP increase the effects of the pain medication. I all ready looked up interactions online but I want some real life experiances. Thanks.

I was put on narcotics before I was diagnosed and they made me very high. I got addicted to percs cause they felt so damn good. Be careful.

Consult with the pharmacist (you do get them all the same place, right?).

Yes and there are tons of interactions from mild to extreme. I was just looking for real life data. I know there are some people taking narcotics with their BP meds

I have taken low dose pain meds on and off for several years. I get EXTREME pain so my situation might be different. When in pain, Without pain meds I can't move, am confused and so, so sick. With pain medication I can think clear and do some things. It only takes the pain down about 50% and I cannot take more or I vomit.....but something is better than nothing. I've never once gotten high or felt different at all when taking the pain meds.....never taken more than needed and take less actually. It's so interesting how differently people react to medications....I'm always amazed!!! If I didn't get sick to my stomach I'd use more when needed. I've not had interactions with my psych meds that I'm aware of.....the psych meds work the same when I take meds vs when I don't.

I'm sorry you are hurting and might need surgery. I'm sure that is very scary. I'm a belieber in taking as few meds as possible, however there is no honor in suffering so if you have severe pain and it effects your quality of life, try the meds but keep a lookout for warning signs of abuse or interaction.

For a month I took tramadol and another pain med, can't recall which one. I was on a lot of psych meds too at the time, and very concerned about the pain meds affecting my mood. Turned out there was no problem at all.

I've taken Percocet with Zyprexa AND Klonopin before and had no problems whatsoever. Of course, it was only on a short-term basis after surgery, but other than a little additional sleepiness I was fine. YMMV.

The pain clinic I went to switched out my benzos for propranolol, best ever med I've ever had for anxiety....wishing the pdoc had known about that one. The pain clinic I went to consulted with the pdoc so all my meds were looked at for interacting. But I quit all the psych meds except the propranolol. I was ok until after the surgery when I quit the narcotics too quickly. I spun off into a depression, but my spine surgery was a success the only thing I need now is an occasional Tylenol. I tell ya surgery saved my life.

I have been taking pain medication with my psych meds for almost two years now. I have very bad chronic pain from an injury and some causes they are still trying to figure out. Because the pain is so bad I don't get high from the medication, it makes it so that I can move rather than making me sluggish. Once or twice when I was really tired, having a drink, and taking my pain meds I have gotten a little woozy but that has happened like twice in the two years and I am not supposed to drink in the first place.

For about a year I was on Vicodin, tried Percocet but it didn't work and upset my stomach. Currently, I am on something called Nucynta it is both an opiate pain reliever and treats neuropathic pain. It is the only med out right now that works the way it does. Works wonders for me, I am able to take part in almost all normal activity on it.

If I was to just stop the meds I probably do have a physical chemical addiction at this point but I don't have a mental addiction to them, I use them to treat my pain and when I don't hurt I don't take them. It is normal for people with severe chronic like me to be on these types of meds for extended periods of time like I am.

I've had a herniated disk in my neck and when it acts up I take hydrocodone. I do ok but I do get a bit woozy and avoid driving.
