I take it and it seems to be okay for me so far. I can't really tell you about the side effects, with my other meds and all. But it's good.

I was on Saphris for years, then switched to Vraylar after developing TD on Saphris.

I have taken Vraylar for awhile, at the usual starting dose of 3 mg. It is super expensive, like Saphris, so you'll need good insurance. It is a small capsule, not that nasty dissolving tablet like Saphris. Vraylar has a very long half life, so if you are bad about taking meds, it takes a LONG time to get out of your system (half life is 2-4 DAYS!!). It has helped me with my symptoms very well. As far as side effects go, the only ones I really have are a little lightheadedness (which is not particularly bothersome, I just know it's there) and I have anxiety now which I did not have on Saphris. I wonder if Saphris medicated the anxiety or Vraylar is causing it...unsure about that and so is my pdoc. Anxiety is a listed side effect for Vraylar.

Of course everyone is different. All you can do is try these meds to see which one works for you.

FYI, in addition to Vraylar I take lithium and Lamictal.

I started vraylar a week before I started depakote. It basically did nothing for a week. When I started the depakote is when my hypomania subsided. So I'm not sure what vraylar is doing for me, if anything. But I don't have any side effects so far. I'm just not sure how effective it is. I'm on 3mg.

Are you guys gaining weight on it?
bizi who is just thinking of going up on my seroquel because of costs. I think it is a new medication so there would not be a generic, right? so maybe even in canada it would be expensive.

saphris and vraylar are so expensive, both have a drug card but they expire in 6 months or less. Then what to do?????
Will my pdoc have samples for me?
Will a canadian pharmacy have a brand name or just the generic which I don't think either one of these have that yet.
Both seroquel and lithium have side effects and risks. maybe I should just try one of those?
I mean I already take 200mg of seroquel at night.
maybe take it during the day too?

Maybe I could get by with a small dose????
I just got on the scale this morning.
43 pound weight gain since 11-2015Vraylar (caripazine) anyone take this?
This is a comb of my menopause, beer, abilify and eating too much.
I have lots of excuses for gaining weight.
sigh
My big girl pant scrubs fit well, like pajamas! Tops will come in next week, I think, maybe end of this week. some are on back order so not sure what color is coming in. We shall see.

Have a good day yall.

No, Vraylar was only FDA approved in 2015 so there'll be no generic for some time. It's over $1000/month for the 6mg caps ~ fortunately I'm getting samples from my psych because my insurance won't cover it.

I started it a few months ago. Absolutely no side effects for me. Usually when I start a new AP, I sleep for two days. Im on 3mg. Thinking of increasing though.

queen, am glad that you don't have any side effects. that is great.

I am thinking that maybe i feel that abilify is not right for me because all of my addictions seem to be in full swing.
maybe with a better ap I would be able to reel it in?????

hi. vraylar is very new, so there isn't a whole lot of data out there on it, and what is available is (predictably...) funded by the drug maker.

have you tried any of the older tranquilizers? not an ideal solution, but in big studies w/ people diagnosed with Schizophrenia, perphenazine (Trilafon, I think) was almost as effective as zyprexa w/o the metabolic problems. I also think the perphenazine caused less sedation, and the cost is very low (perphenazine has been around since the 50s). loxapine is another older tranquilizer that many people tolerate well, as long as the dose is kept low(ish). EPS, TD, akathisia, etc. can be more of an issue with the older drugs, but it seems that --all-- tranquilizers cause these adverse effects, and a lot of it has to do with the individual drug (probably a good idea to avoid Haldol or Prolixin, for instance) and individual susceptibility.

I hope things get better for you.

No weight gain in over 6 months on 6mg. It is $$$$$ and Medicare won't approve it for me. Thankfully my psych gets me samples.

Yes I know you've been thinking about a new med. from my experience, when I get bad at drinking again it's usually because a med isn't working with my hypo and I'm self medicating or partying to avoid the agitation. I know what you're going through and I worry for you doll. PM me anytime.

Thank you!
My pdoc added 25mg of seroquel at noon to see if it helps with my addictions. I have been alcohol free for the past 2 nights. So maybe it is helping????
Have a good day!
