Maybe I should have asked in the psych meds part of the forum, but I wanted to ask specifically bipolar people about this med. I did a forum search and the most recent info is from 2015. Since then it's easier to get and most insurance covers it, so I'm hoping for more info.

The main thing I'm scared about is IF it can cause or worsen anxiety or mania. I've been taking it for a couple of weeks now. It seems to make me think clearer, but I'm feeling very nervous, irritable, and jittery. It's also giving me the mother of all headaches. Does these feelings get better or go away after a while? I know some meds are hard getting used to.

I started out at 100mg and after week went to 200mg. The 200 was unbearable so I've gone back to 100.

If anyone has any experience with this med, I would really appreciate any feedback.

It has been years since I took it, but I believe it is an immediate medicine. It doesn't change effects over time. It made me jittery also, which is why I stopped. I have apnea, which is how I got it before insurance companies were easy about it. It was approved for alertness if you had a sleep disorder. I also like the clarity.

I took it (and later Nuvigil) while I was working. It helped me a lot. It did occasionally send me up but I learned to notice as soon as it started and would take a PRN to counter it and that worked well. I had flex hours but this made the difference between working 9-5 and 11-7 so it was huge for me. It also made me more efficient and less scattered. I couldn't have worked without it on the doses of APs I was taking.

I took it years ago, to counteract sedating effects of Seroquel. The first couple of days, I felt a bit speedy... But after that, no problems.

Provigil (and Nuvigil) did well for me. I don't remember any anxiety, but did have a slight headache from time to time. I quit taking it as the amphetamines work better for me. Vyvanse is kind of my amphetamine magic bullet.

I used it a few years ago and then for 2-3 months recently. I had headaches some days but I didn't have any anxiety or jittery feelings. It was effective but in the end my pdoc decided to stay with the stimulant I was previously on.

I sure wish I could get back on it ~ I can't get approval from Medicare. My psych was able to give me samples for quite some time but that source dried up.
It was a G*dsend for me!! It brought me right out of the doldrums with no side effects. Am now on Ritalin and I usually don't take it because I can't stand the racing heartbeat and jitters it causes.

ugh! It's makes me so angry when people can't get the medicine they need to help them!

I've been taking 2/200mg doses in am and at lunch since April. Have had a headache from time to time, but no problem with anxiety or jitteriness. It actually kind of calms me, sort of like coffee (which will put me to sleep at times). I get a 882mg shot of Aristada, plus 20 mg of Abilify in pill form, so it helps with the sedation from those drugs.

I take 200 mg as a PRN, usually when I need to study which is about 4-5 days a week. At times I have taken as much as 600 mg in one day. It clears my mind, helps me concentrate and generally gives me mental stamina for about 4 hours. When on it I feel calm and it lifts my mood. Once it wears off though all the negative stuff, like agitation, depression or whatever else I am dealing with at the time, returns. Kinda wish I could take it all day but my pdoc only prescribes 200 mg 4-5 days a week.

I was taking Provigil for a couple years until 2015 then asked to be put on Nuvigil after I went through a 3 month prescription of Provigil in a month lol. It pooped out on me. I have noticed that you shouldn't take 3 nuvigil within a short time cause it'll make you feel like you're having a stroke. Sometimes I am not a smart drug addict.

Massive headaches.

I am glad to read some people are helped by these 2 meds.
