Hello, does anyone have problems with weight gain/loss during depression/mania?

This is a real problem for me, at the moment its weight loss, ive lost close to 28lbs in the last few weeks, i have no appetite so i don't really eat unless im really hungry. I would eat more to fix my weight but having no appetite doesn't help.

Anyone else experience this?

Yeah, I have no appetite in general. Must be because of the Ritalin I'm on.

When I'm manic, I can actually go an entire day without eating, so it's even worse.

If you've lost 28 lbs in the span of a few weeks, I wouldn't be surprised if some of it was water weight. If you drink more water, I think you'll probably gain back some of what you lost.

I try to eat at least 2 meals a day. I set a timer on my phone to remind me when to eat because Ritalin prevents my stomach from rumbling.

For years I've gained weight when severely depressed but the past year or so I've been losing weight at a fairly consistent rate. I'm not complaining.

when I had the breakdown, I dropped from 175 to 127lbs. I'm a dude, 5'11 or so.

If you're dropping a ton of weight quickly, I'd recommend getting in with a general practice doctor, if you can, for blood work and such. Psych drugs...well, if you need them, take them, but with rapid weight loss, you could also be looking at very real physical issues that need to be addressed, and won't be addressed in most mental hospitals (trust me on that one).

try to get some help, please.

Sometimes when depressed I eat to self soothe and gain....when really depressed I stop eating and lose.....when manic I forget to eat for days due to distraction and I'm always on the move so I often lose weight but I've also had times when I would be manic and go out to eat a lot and drink lots of beer so I'd gain. My weight is definitely effected by mood but as you can see it's effected differently based on how that mood manifests and other outside influences.

I tend to lose in severe depression. Depending on how long it lasts, anywhere from 5-15lbs. Sometimes I gain in hypomania but usually no more than 5lbs, but sometimes I also lose. Depends on how it presents.
