This is week 3 on the patch. I already bought a pack and smoked it, then went back on the patch. Then this morning took my dog out to go potty, and someone dropped a cigarette that hadn't been smoked off of at all. Sounds gross, but I smoked it. So two relapses. I don't plan on buying cigarettes, but when my moods change so much or I feel depressed, I want cigarettes. When I feel anxious, I want cigarettes. And when I feel so tired from bipolar and from quitting, I want a cigarette. Ugh, this sucks. But I already got this far, and with the money from cigarettes, I bought yummy food and went to a used book store, got 10 books. If only people in my town would not smoke or vape in front of me. Then I would feel better. And people wouldn't drop a full cigarette with my name written on it. Everybody, can't you see I'm trying to quit. Bipolar disorder, can't you see I'm trying to quit??

I feel you. I want to quit so bad. I've quit 2 or 3 times previously and ended up picking it back up. I keep toying with the idea then I get super anxious and smoke like crazy.

Sounds like you are making some good strides towards quitting though. That is something to be proud of!

I've *quit* about 3-4x lately...only to start up again. When I'm depressed...I don't care. When I'm hypo...I don't care.

I have emphysema stage II. I'm vaping now. No tar. 4 poisons against 4000. You need motivation. I have plenty. It takes a little while getting used to. At the end, all we need is the nicotine. I feel much better now. Think about it.

i've smoked on and off since i was 15, i am 40 now. it was a long time. i quit constantly and started up again constantly. mostly, i think, this was because i wasn't managing my bipolar for all of these years. it was always worse if i was alone, i would smoke and drink and get stoned to help sooth myself and keep me from facing myself when i was alone.

i started to manage BP better through exercise and diet (had to change diet because i'm pre-diabetic, it also runs in my family...) and take my meds, etc, and then i noticed if i smoked and drank like i used to it would either make me manic or make me more depressed, causing my meds to not work at stabilizing me. so i quit for good, i put an X on the calendar and set up a reminder to tell me every year when it's that X date. i feel a lot better now, and a lot more stable. i am happy i quit. smoking is really gross after you have left it behind, and what a waste of $$$.

YES this is my problem exactly. When I’m stable I’m like yeah, let’s go, let’s do it! But as soon as I get depressed, I don’t care about my health anymore because I want to die anyway. If I’m hypo I’m having too much fun to care about my health.

I have a vape too but it makes me cough ironically.

I feel ya, bewise. It sounds like you're making a huge effort to stop smoking! Keep giving it the effort you've been giving it! Quitting is difficult, period.

After smoking for 35 years, I quit cold turkey three years ago. I still want to have a cigarette on my high & low days, & still have dreams about smoking. Since quitting, it's somewhat easier to breathe, but I have a minor case of COPD & get winded easily. I was smoking three cartons a month before I stopped, but now have almost $200 left at the end of the month that wasn't there before. Despite the urges to smoke (nicotine is almost as addictive as heroin), there are good reasons to quit. It just a matter of finding them. Quitting isn't easy, that's for damned sure, but citing bipolar as a reason to smoke is just another excuse (it's the cigs talking) IMO.

I smoked for 15 years. I quit for two years, but then started smoking cigars. I'm not proud of that.

It’s hard to stop smoking, no matter what you have! I’ve given up for nearly 6 years, but I vape.

The $$$$$ is a big factor...especially since I moved to NY...$10.00 a pack. That's more of an incentive for me now than my health (I hate to say)...
