For the last several nights but especially last night I can't sleep restfully because I keep going into panic mode with shortness of breath and feeling of terror. It's happening in day time too. It's probably because I'm stressed but it's awful.

Last night I ended up taking Ativan but it didn't help much. Breathing exercises don't help much. I can't live like this.

Suggestions?

I had big hopes tonight would be better. Noooooooo

I slept for a couple hours before I woke up in a panic. My heart was racing and I still can't really breathe. I feel so scared.

I'm
Wondering-could this be a medication issue??

Can it be apnea? Then compounded by lack of sleep?

I e been told I stop breathing in my sleep but can it cause a panic attack that won't ease
Up??

This is so scary.
The feeling of waking up terrified and short of breath.

I think it can. My mum has a similar problem and she hasn't got a mental issue. She is currently undergoing testing by cardiologists. All I know so far is that she is short of breath and her heart is racing. It only happens overnight.

My advice is to tell your GP about it. They're less likely to assume your issue is psychiatric and will do a broader investigation.

Looking at the timing of your posts, it was a very long night. Sleeplessness is very frustrating. I hope there's a nap in your future, at least!

If you’re waking up short of breath, it’s a plausible scenario that you could have sleep apnea. Have you ever undergone a sleep study?

I kept doing breathing exercises and some friends prayed over me.

It stopped after 11am today. I still feel on edge but better than I did
