It is best since he is still having suicidal thoughts, but it just plain sucks. Also, my oldest won't come home before Saturday. It just seems so wrong to celebrate anything tomorrow.

Sorry to hear that.

But you do make a good point. Why not celebrate a little later? Sometimes we celebrate Christmas late. So I think it's ok for you to do that with Thanksgiving. It's all about family and friends, and being together.

You can still have a mini celebration tomorrow though, but the "official" one later

I hope your son feels better soon

Definitely consider celebrating later.

Once I was IP on my birthday. No one could even visit me that day because during that hospitalization I was in the dual diagnosis ward (mental illness plus alcohol dependence). They only allowed visitation twice during the work week and on weekends, and my birthday fell on a day with no visitations allowed. They did know it was my birthday and tried to make it special. Really, it turned out pretty nice, considering. I'm sure they'll have a special dinner on Thanksgiving. There is something to be very thankful for. Safety in the hospital.

My wife and one of my kids are gung ho about it. The other kid that will be here says it will make him sad and we shouldn't have it. I kind of agree but have kept quiet about it. One whole side of the turkey probably won't even be cut into; only two of us eat turkey. We will probably barely make a dent in the sides and have a fridge full of leftovers.

My wife is gone to pick him up. They won't get back until late afternoon or early this evening. My oldest comes home tomorrow. I want a Thanksgiving do over tomorrow night.

Were you able to have a do over Thanksgiving? If so, I hope it was good. It’s nice to have your family together again.

The do over will be on Sunday.

The first ting my son said when he got home - "Worst vacation ever!"
Still got his sense of humor...

Excellent. After all, Thanksgiving should be more about the concept than a particular day.
And a nice chuckle to start the day. Funny kid. In a good way.
Enjoy your special day...
