Is it worth being stable and having no feelings or vice versa? I am as stable as I have been in a long time. But I have zero feelings just very flat. I don't know if I am happy or sad about this.

If you have no feelings, then you need some medication adjustment and/or therapy. I'm stable and have just the right amount of emotions. I get excited, and touched, and sad (if I see a sad movie or show). I feel very good.

It took me over a year to find a combo that lifted my deep depression and bouts of hypo mania with one episode of full blown mania in between It's like walking a tight rope with my medications. The smallest adjustment can bring back symptoms. I don't want to be hospitalized again.

Sadly enough there is a fine line of feel stable with emotions and being flat...

How often are you taking Xanax ? The reason I ask is its a depressant and often times when its being used it can be that small bit that could be the problem.. Happened to me in the past... Just a thought.

I hope your feeling better soon.

I take .5-1mg a day of xanax. Yes it is such a fine line.

When I'm truly feeling well, I do feel normal emotions. I don't however, react the same way I used to. I had a hard time at first with stability because it confused me. Those with the disorder are used to feeling things to such a high degree that anything less can appear flat line.

Alternatively, it may be the wrong medication or you may be experiencing break through symptoms of depression. It's hard for us to determine the difference, you know your body better than anyone.

With the periods of stability I’ve had this year, it starts to feel so very boring. Not sure if that’s the flat feeling people talk about. I miss intensity of emotion. I then become quite melancholic. (Which was my day today after having had a decent week). I’ve said it before, I’d really like a med combo that gives me a teensy happy amount of hypomania. Wishful thinking.

I felt very flat when I was on lithium. It was like there was a buffer between me and reality. Definitely ask your pdoc about this. Hope you find answers soon, that is no way to live.

Sometimes when my mood flat, I can't tell if it's still some depressive symptoms "leaking through" the meds, or if it's the meds in itself. I do know that when I was feeling especially flat after a medication change, after a few months, I adjusted and no longer felt that way. It's hard to tell though, whether it's the meds or not. Sometimes this can indicate that you are on either too high of a dose of meds or perhaps need a med change, as others stated....unless you want to just ride it out and see if the feeling lasts for much longer.

It is always hard for me to know what is flat and what is normal or depressed. I will take flat over depressed, but over time it does get to me. It is so hard for me to sometimes to describe feelings without being taken wrong. Some days are just blah, teary, happy, flat, and so on. With meds and changes I do not give them a chance , normally within the first few days I make my judgement of how I feel. I need to learn to give more time.

You're on a bunch of meds so talking to your pdoc about feeling flat and making an adjustment seems like a worthwhile step.

It may not be possible to distinguish what you are feeling from a chronic low grade depression. I'd really like to hear other peoples opinions on that.

I haven't felt normal emotions in so long that I've forgotten what that might feel like, but each day I am thankful not to be psychotic or manic or both. But it is just surviving.

Do you have hope for your future?
