Had my appointment today. I don’t think it could have gone any worse. I’m frustrated and depressed. There’s nothing left.

I get FRUSTRATED and depressed too. Doctors always want to know if i am SAD and depressed. Being sad would almost be a relief. Frustration is such a misery! What went wrong in your appointment? If you care to share...
Thanks for this!

Please don't give up. You have your whole life ahead of you! But I do think you need to be more proactive. You can do it!

Go IP if you just can’t handle it anymore. You will learn coping skills and see a Pdoc daily.

Hang in there and keep fighting, takes work to enjoy life when your as low as I think you are

I went IP 18 yrs ago. Was dx with depression-before that. I kept getting more anxious-changed meds at least 8-10times. Both therapist and psych md at the time could not figure me out.
Finally, could not take it/was losing it, went to ER. Checked myself in-turned out to be a very good thing. I was dx manic/depressive-back then/since then changed to bipolar 2..anyway-it got me correct dx ,trying mutiple meds-under supervision/got me on the right meds. Did teach me coping skills symptom recognition'and so much more

So if you need it-don't be afraid to go INpt. Good luck to you.

Hi, I am sorry the appt. did no go as you had wished.

What is it the pdoc won't do?
What doesn't he understand?
What do you need?

Do you need a different pdoc?

I agree with Christina; maybe consider IP?

I am very concerned about you.
Please stay safe.

Yes I need a new doctor. After waiting 30 minutes past my scheduled time I finally got to see him. I offered him my note or to read from it. He grabbed it and glanced, put it down. I told him everything was in there. Literally everything. He read one paragraph and gave up. He didn’t address any of my questions at all. He just said I’ve tried all meds at this point. He took me off 2 of my current meds and put me on one for schizophrenia that I’ve never heard of. I spent hours writing everything down to make sure I got it all right and I was in and out of his office in 5 minutes. IP is useless around here.

How disappointing!

I am very sorry it went that way after all of your hard work!

Yes, it sounds like you could benefit from a different pdoc.

Keep all you have written out, it could be very useful in the now and in the future.

I know you feel like giving up. I do, too, sometimes. Yet, it's not the best option. Hopefully, you can find a new pdoc... which will be a challenge... but it may just work out.

We are here for you. I know it's not enough, but it's something. I wish I could do more to be helpful.

Thinking of you.
Stay safe and keep posting.
Get some rest tonight, if you can.

I am so sorry to hear your appointment didn’t go very well.

I used to have the same problem, I was not able to talk about what really bothered me, I could only write. Luckily I had a very good therapist, and I spent two years learning to talk, sort of.

What medication did he give you?

I think it is odd he says you’ve tried everything. Some may need a combo, and there are different combos that work for different people.

I just got a medication that is used primarily for schizoprenia, but also often used for bipolar.

I am so sorry you are struggling, hang in there- find a doctor that takes you serious and will help you get better.

Christina and many others gave me that advice 6 months ago. It turned me around.

IP may help some but I’m not going. I don’t even know my new med. I’ve never heard of it and I don’t have it yet because it isn’t covered by insurance. It’s a med for schizophrenia.

Have you tried ECT? I know it’s not for everyone, but if you’re ready to give up, then aren’t the risks worth it?

I was offered that in the hospital once. I didn’t know what it was and no one explained it to me so I didn’t do it. I did my own research and was going to bring it up this appointment but he didn’t even read or let me ask without pushing me out the door.

Generally speaking, all meds are tried before ECT.

There is a way in which it is determined if someone is a good candidate for ECT or not. This determination can be made via a consult with an ECT specialist, usually the director of a hospital's ECT program.

Many of us take meds "off label," which means they are generally meds for a different diagnosis/condition. Many BP meds are used for both BP and schizophrenia. If you can get the name of the drug, we will likely recognize it and then will be able to share about it with you. It is also possible someone knows how to obtain the med at a discount if there is a discount available.

Let us help you as much as we can, okay?

We care.

They offer it every time I'm in the hospital. It sounds scary from what I've heard and no one ever talks me through it.

The new med is Fanapt.

As far as ECT goes, someone should tell you about it in detail and should answer you questions. I did an ECT thread awhile ago which might help out a little. I will look for it and will post a link here in this thread.

I have no experience with Fanapt, but someone is likely familiar with it. Just give people time to respond.

EDIT: I've just bumped the thread up so it's at the beginning of this forum. Should you not be able to find it, the link is: https://forums.psychcentral.com/bipo...e-therapy.html

Fanapt savings Card

https://fanapt.pskw.com/prescription-savings

Read about this card to see if you are eligible.
Talk with your pharmacy about price.
See if this card offers enough savings to make Fanapt affordable.

If not, don't give up. There is likely another option.

You've received a lot of really good advice, but you seem determined to just give up. You might really re-read the comments on the threads you've posted to get an undertsanding that people are really trying to help & do care about your well-being. I know it's tough being in a rut, but at some point you've got to make an effort to help yourself. We're rooting for you.

You could also start a thread on Fanapt and see what you get for responses?

I believe that fanapt is the new risperdal with tweaks. I was on it for a week in 2014? before giving up and going back on geodon. All I wanted to eat were swiss rolls and cheeseburgers. I think i gained 7-10 lbs that week. It's a bit fuzzy. I wasn't doing well at the time. I've been on almost all the meds this is the 2nd and 3rd time I've been on the meds I'm on now, but I had never been on this combo and amazingly it works. You can try a med again with a different combo and you might get different results. I think the med that saved my *** was equetro (carbamazapine) it's an extended release version of the med, but it's new and expensive.

Yeah I know people are trying to help and I appreciate it all. But you know how freaking hard it is to have any optimism right now. I read everything everyone replies with trust me.

Yes. I know you are having a very rough time.
I am very sorry this is true.

It’s okay. Thanks for replying. I’m going to have someone find me a new doctor soon. Before next month. I can’t afford the new med anyways
