Hey everyone,
So I recently had a dr change, and a med change. previously I was taking Vyvanse 40mg, lamictal 200mg, Haldol 10mg, and gabapentin 800mg 4x daily. I've been at this clinic for going on 4 years and have been tossed around like a bag of oreos… I think I'm on my 6th dr if not 7th now in that time... now recently I stopped the Haldol, weened myself off that on drs orders. and once I was nearly off / off, there was a total lift of my depression. ive been out of work since mid march, and finally feel like I might be ready to get back into things. Now, new doc. doesn't like gabapentin, so (even though I feel better on this regiment than I have in months) this guy decides to take me off something that's helping me. Now I've read anecdotal experiences w/ people on lamictal and gabapentin with treatment resistant bipolar disorder. its helped me too. anyone else here have that be the case? currently im working with my psychologist to get out of this clinic and get to a dr I can have for more than a few months before I get a new one... this has been hell. and currently my plan is for the mean time to head to my pcp and explain to him the situation and hopefully he can keep me on whats been working for me until I can get to a new pdoc that's not an ego maniac... |

Have you tried being very assertive with this new pdoc? Perhaps ask him why he would try to "fix" what isn't broke? After all, you'll still pay him even if he doesn't do something for just the sake of doing something.

I had that problem too. Kept getting a psychiatry resident every year. Didn't even believe I had bipolar. Finally went to another clinic and was diagnosed. Could've saved a lot of wasted years.

Nice to see you again, st0psign!
Yeah, I'm with BirdDancer on asking him directly why he wants to fix what's not broken. It really annoys me how some prescribers just decide they "don't like" something --as if they're the ones taking it(!) (And even if they were, it would show a lack if understanding that people don't react the same to a given med!) I go to a place associated with the county and the providers change, but not too bad. My current prescriber (I literally just left the appointment) was changing things up quite a bit for awhile. It got confusing(!) Think I've got her on a less change mode now. I think, lol. I'm on both Lamictal and gabapentin. I didn't know it was used that way, but I've been pretty pleased with them both. Good luck! |
